I need to buy a fridge soon and would like to get a french door with bottom freezer design but holy hell they're expensive.

Anyone ever find any good deals or have any personal suggestions for one model or another?

Something like these

If you look at Lowes, or Home Depot, they usually have some like that, they also have the door open sideways, instead of downward. Our old fridge used to be like that. I never understood having the freezer on the side. It seems a less efficient use of space imho. Good luck.

I have this one: Click Me

It's definitely nice, but as you say, expensive. I bought mine from Home Depot. There are a couple of ways to save. You can save $200 right away by not going with the stainless steel, even more if you go with black. We also had a $400 off coupon for $2000+ purchase (we spent a good chunk of change on our kitchen remodel). They were also offering a $200 rebate for that fridge. In the end, it came out to the same as a side-by-side, with free delivery. Bottom line, try to find those deals. Home Deport and Lowes (possibly even Sears) will give you $200-$400 off if you sign up for their credit card also. I didn't take that route because that offer couldn't be combined with the $400 off coupon. Anyways, most of the appliances have some good deals around Labor Day.

The only thing I hate is the water filter. It's $50 and they say to change it every 6 months. I haven't changed mine yet and it's fine (been about 1.5 years now).

I've got an LG one that I bought at a ding & dent sale @ Best Buy. It's got a couple dings under the handle but works great otherwise. It doesn't have the water/ice thing in the door. It does have an ice maker in the freezer though.

Overall it's a great fridge and really prefer it to my Side by Side. The pull out chest in the bottom is very easy to organize and handles some really awkward items that most other freezers short of full size chest style deep freeze wouldn't be able to hold.

The fridge portion is also great for storing wide items that my side by side wouldn't take (sheet cakes, pizza boxes, ect).

It's incredibly efficient. It only adds a few extra bucks a month onto the electric bill.

My only real beef with it is that doors are harder to close and won't seal up if you just give them a light shove like you can with a normal fridge. Luckily it has a sensor that beeps because my wife left it open twice before she finally started closing it all the way.

My fridge was $1499 @ Best buy. When I bought it I got a $750 gift card(ding & dent sale), free delivery, and 0% financing for 18 months. Not a bad deal.

Our next door neighbor has one. She picked it out thinking she would love it.
She hates it. Too hard to find things, at least her opinion.

See if you can't get a 20% coupon off eBay for HD. The specific one you need that is valid still is one that looks like a small orange credit card not made out of regular paper, but what feels like a mix of paper/plastic (don't know what the hell the material is called). In many stores, we won't accept any other 20% off coupon. We especially won't accept the letter one.

I've had freezer on top, bottom and side by side. I prefer top. Current fridge has a bottom freezer and its ok, it can be a hassle to find things though. (Some sort of drawer mentality as opposed to on top where it is more like a cupboard)

At sears you currently get no interest no payments for either a year or two years with a sears card. Possible 5-10% off after rebate as well.

This sunday is also a VIP day, from 3-6pm everything in the store is 10% off.

My GF's mother has one of those.. an LG I think.. I HATE it.. it's impossible to find anything in the freezer. Not to mention that every time you open the freezer, a bunch of ice cubes from the ice maker fall on the floor. (the dog enjoys that however)

My parents have one, replacing a side by side, and they love it. No issues as others have stated about ice falling out anywhere or anything. Not sure of the brand and model they got though. My mom packs it full of crap, and it's always easy to find something.

We've got the LG one also.. Wife hasnt complained, although I do find it hard to find some things in the freezer since everything is more or less piled from the bottom up... Got it at cost ~$1500 from a friend who owns an appliance store... Price at HD was $2200 at the time

Here is a place that sells Amana fridges at a great price, with free shipping too!. I used to work on Amana appliances and they are probably some of the better mid to upper mid level appliances out there. Of course nowadays, Amana, Kenmore, Whirlpool and GE are all made by GE so take that FWIW.

I think free shipping and all the discounts they offer make this a sweet deal.

Peace
