i get paid per km. there is a fixed rate and a variable rate which is influenced by the average gas price for my territory per month.

You can write off the difference between what they pay you and the IRS rate.

About 5 or 6 years ago I was getting 42 cents per mile... so yes, it sounds like you are being screwed.

That's just the rate that the company can write off your mileage at.

not anymore.

before i started, employees would get paid for mileage and were allowed to use their own vehicles for company field work.

the system was getting abused so bad that people's mileage cheques were more than their regular pay.

now we get $10 for lunch expense and must use a fleet vehicle.

so, no.
