Neat UI.

Downloaded and played Tekken 6 for about an hour then uninstalled it. Right now I have Maverick Hunter X and Gravity Rush installed. Will play those then Uncharted and finally Disgaea.

Uninstalled because you didn't like it or because you don't have enough room on your card? IIRC you can backup games to your pc via the USB cable, so if you're just running out of room you can back that up instead of deleting and having to redownload everything.

Wasn't a fan.

I like my vita just fine. And, in fact, hardware wise, I like it much better than my 3ds.

Now, game wise? Not so much. I do own around 4 games for it, plus I bought some psp games off the psn that work on it too. And, I like all the ones that I do own (but I have strange taste...really liking games that other people can't stand). But, if/until they get a more robust library, I can't really recommend it.
I'm of roughly the same opinion. I like the Vita hardware quite a bit, as it's easy to hold, the screen is vivid (if a bit blue) and for as little space as Sony had the thumbsticks work well. As a travel-gamer I'd normally strive for something more portable and with better battery life, but the only modern alternative would be the 3DS, which thanks to that damned 3D screen has even worse battery life than the Vita.

As for the games, I have no problem recommending it even with the limited game library, just keep in mind what you're getting into. I have 4 games on cartridge - my preferred format - and then a couple more games as digital downloads since they don't come on cartridges. Wipeout 2048 disappointed me due to the combination of "busy" looking maps and the 30fps framerate, while Rayman: Origins and LBP2:Vita are absolutely fantastic. Also, everyone has to own one of the pinball games (both Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball are quite good), and Super Stardust Delta is a good way to kill 20 minutes.

I don't have any real comment on the utility apps though. I bought the Vita to play games, so the browser, Skype, YouTube, etc are unimportant to me.

Overall I probably overpaid for what I got due to the fact that I ended up picking up a WiFi version and an 8GB card separately at launch (the 3G version included an 8G card for roughly the same markup), but with the deals going on now I'd certainly have no problem suggesting one if the current game library interests you.

sony needs to reboot/relaunch the device. probably going to happen with the ps4; the device has lots of potential, but it seems like reception is lackluster. i'm sure if they dropped down the price of momemory things would be reasonable.

The Vita started selling quite well in Japan after they dropped the price. It actually beat the 3DS for the first time ever (including the Vita's launch week) after that! Although, last I heard, Sony wasn't planning on a price drop anywhere else.

I think it would be interesting if they'd consider a bundle deal where you could get a $50 mail-in rebate if you purchase a PS4 and a Vita within 30 days of each other (or something like that). Sony's been pushing the interoperability between the two, and I think that would really help to seal the deal with getting people to buy a Vita. At that point, you just have us poor early adopters who paid MSRP.

I think the reason the Japan price drop worked so well, and the reason they haven't dropped it anywhere else yet, is because they had software to go along with it. When they dropped the price in Japan, Phantasy Star Online 2 was coming out the next week, and Soul Sacrifice the week after that. The combination of hardware and software allowed for the success they saw then (and are still seeing right now). I think they're either waiting to get some compelling software out in other regions (at the very least, having Soul Sacrifice release) to drop the prices everywhere else, or just waiting until E3 when they'll get the most coverage of the drop.

Indeed. Furthermore since Sony gets a piece of all software sales, they can afford to lose a bit more on the hardware if they're making it up in software sales. As weak as the Vita's software sales are here, that's not something they could pull off.

That's a good point.

Based on the impending Final Fantasy release that could be PS4-only, I wonder if Sony and Square will become even better bedfellows and push the system hard when Final Fantasy X HD comes out.

The markup on these is obscene. Really limits the appeal of being able to download games. The slight savings in cost are more than made up for in cost per gigabyte for the storage. It's between $3 and $5 per gigabyte when other flash storage mediums have dropped to the $1 mark.

The latest Vita firmware added folder support for the main screen. All I can say is... thank goodness! I was able to put all that lame Vita software into an aptly titled folder... "Lame Vita Software"!

No kidding. Random bubbles on the screen was a terrible UI decision. It was like using my old iphone 3G all over again.

Anyone know of a way to play PSP games that are not on the PSN on your Vita? I have some that are UMD backed up to PC and wondering if perchance there's a way...

Not that I know of. I haven't searched on it but maybe there's a mod?

It requires a PSP mode kernel exploit. Which in turn requires a Vita on 2.02 or earlier. An up-to-date Vita (2.10) is not exploitable.
