We're trying to design a bathroom and while I know what I like when I see it, I have no idea how to create something.

Here's pictures of what it looks like now. The demo'ed bath and shower area is 58 inches by 76 inches.

Thanks!

You have to give some info on what you like and don't like and how much you have to spend.

Why didn't you just post these pictures in your other thread? Would have explained a lot.

I have no clue what I like and don't like. If I see a picture then I can decide. But I have no imagination at all. No creativity either...

A standard 60" tub is not going to fit in the space of 58".

See if a 54"x54" corner tub would fit in there. A claw foot, drop in tub (could be oval or rectangle) might also work if you built the base for it.

Or, get a short tub that are 46" to 54" tub.

[add]

Might as well get an air tub/whirlpool. If you already have a separate shower.

Take out the frame for the bathtub and place in a shower. Tub/shower's that are encased in tile are quite ugly. Put a steam shower in it's place with glass tile all around.

Now imo, I would move the toilet away from the shower. Use a dual sink that is close to the shower and move the toilet facing the shower. The L shaped seems to take up a ton of space.

Check out the show room of a local plumbing & bath store and see what you like.

Stone.

Heated (stone?) floors (steam).

Use built-in teak in-lays for normal locations near shower, doors, sink, benches, etc....

(Drip / Drizzle / Rain / Pour) full-ceiling built-in shower head.

Side shower jets.

Clear glass sink over wood with stone on top of table. Stone Backsplash. Interesting sink faucet that "flows" interestingly.

Seperate toilet area with hooks, changing area, seperate sink, etc...

Bidet. (or, Toto Washlet S400).

If large bathroom, get a hot tub / jacuzzi / large tub with faucet that "flows" interestingly".

If huge bathroom, get a steam room.

If enormous bathroom, get a sauna.

I'm amused that you had a contractor start work before you had a clue what you wanted. When we did our kitchen, it was months and months of looking, purchasing samples of floor tiles, purchasing samples of granite, purchasing samples of tiles for the back splash... Hell, if I wanted a completely unmatched kitchen, I could probably redo it with samples that were at one point considered, then rejected. If you're in a hurry to pick stuff out, the showrooms, as suggested, plus get a shitload of magazines dedicated to remodeling bathrooms. They should give you a lot of ideas. You'll also find colors that really seem to stand out for you. After that, then you have to see what's available to you on whatever budget you've set. i.e. you might have your heart set on some particular style of marble or granite for the tub surround, only to discover that it's $80 per sq foot.

I don't know what you mean...the contractors didn't do anything. I did all that work. They just cut the bottom of the tub out, which has to be done anyway. They're doing other jobs around the house until I decide what to do for the bathroom.

Good advice though. I'll try to look at stuff this weekend. Much to do, little time to do it.

Ahhh, since you mentioned the contractors in the other thread & since demolition work had already occurred, I was under the assumption that the contractors started the job in the bathroom.

Yeah, kind of confusing. I ripped it all out. Had to be done. Was moldy and done incorrectly. Ah well.

I'm trying to, but we're busy with my gf's mom being in the hospital and all. I'll see if I can go this weekend.

Plan on getting an early start. Many around these parts are typically only open until noon.

Put the shitter in the shower along with an LCD tv behind a heated waterproof glass window. How awesome would that be?

I don't mean to sound like a dick but all of the design should have been figured out before you started the project. Revamping the design no only skyrockets your cost.

Started what project? Nothing has been done at all. We had to remove the tile because it failed. That had to be done no matter what. Now we're just deciding what to do with the bathroom.

Yeah I did a complete bathroom reno a few years ago and started without much of a plan. I ended up expanding the shower space, moved the toilet, and removed the useless closet to make the room bigger. The whole project cost me well under $1000 and looks and works great.

I got the primary tile for like $0.10/sf from Home Depot on clearance (accent tile was a bit more), got the vanity on Craigslist for $50, new fixtures and lighting.

However, seeing your budget from the other thread I'd probably find an expert who has a portfolio of designs to see what you like best. My very small budget drove a lot of my decisions but if I'd had $20K+ to spend I would have done it differently.

Skip the all-tile tub though.
