Anyone have ATM fee reimbursement on their check card?

I'm considering switching banks, does anyone have an account that reimburses ATM fees? The last time I checked, several years ago, you had to call the bank to have the fees reversed, or the fees would only be reversed on SOME types of ATMs. Can anyone share their experience with ATM fee reimbursement on their current account? Thanks.

This is what I use as well. It's painless, at the end of every statement i see my few ATM charges refunded to me.

I have a Scottrade ATM card that I use solely when travelling to avoid ATM fees. They charge the ATM fee during the month and at month's end reimburse you for all ATM fees. It is all automatic.

capitalone bank reimburses me usually within 24 hours... they do have a limit per month though, I want to say they will reimburse up to 6 times a month

Yes. A feature on my account is no ATM fees. BUT, the fee gets taken out of the account and then about a week or less later the fee is automatically returned. No intervention on my part and all three transactions show up on the statement. The withdrawal, fee out, fee back in. I use BoA.
Edit: Elganja: good point. I do think there is a limit but I hardly do it once a month.

I have a Fidelity Cash Card that offers this. I got it to withdraw money overseas with no fees. I've had ATM fees automatically reversed for me in the US, Vietnam, and Europe.

Both our bank and our credit union refund ATM fees up to $10/month. The fee comes out when you use someone else's ATM, and at the end of the month they refund the fees. But the refund only applies to ATMs in the US.

Look into Aspiration...lots of press on them and they were even voted #1 online bank by Money magazine last year I think. They refund all ATM fees in addition to their high interest rate (on checking!) and other features.

I use my Charles Schwab account for the ATM reimbursement feature. Works no matter where I am taking money out and I've used it more than once overseas.

The bank I work at refunds all outside-bank ATM fees automatically. You have to live somewhat near Maine to have an account, though.

Ours does, but it's a Morgan Stanley "Wealth Management" account. I don't know what it takes to get one, my wife has had it since before we met. Certainly is a nice feature...these fees are waaayyy too high to justify.

My wife has that on her Capital One card. We rarely take cash out of an ATM though, maybe a couple times a year. It reimburses her pretty damn quick, like within a day I think.

My wife and I don't carry around cash usually. When we do need cash we use our debit card at a grocery store and withdraw cash at the register, it's easier and $0 fees. If we visit an out of network ATM, we have a high yield checking account from a local credit union which reimburses ATM fees automatically.

Accounts like this are fairly common across the USA but most have the following criteria or something similar:

$0 monthly fees
Higher yield interest on balances up to $25,000 or $30,000
Online banking must login at least once a month
Paperless billing
Direct deposit required
At least 12 debit card transactions per month

Google "your city, state high yield checking account credit union" to find some.

Wow, in some places that might be just two transactions. I saw an ATM at the St Louis airport that had a $7 fee.

Yes, I'm with a credit union and they are awesome. I don't understand why people are still with places like Chase. Hell I can actually run for a spot on the board if I want to since I am a part owner of the bank.

They give out good bank bonuses and have great travel credit cards? I mean I don't keep a checking account with them but I've had them pay me to have an account on and off for several years

I just decided to open up a Charles Schwab account and use it as my main account. I split my direct deposit at my work and put just enough in my Bank of America account to avoid a fee so I can do cash deposits if needed.

mine does it automatically, but the vendors are getting smarter by adding the fee as part of the withdrawal instead of separately as a fee. these dont get noticed most of the time that i see, and i have to call the credit union to get it worked out

Same here with a local credit union. They are awesome, except for large loans of all types - they just can't compete with larger banks.

USAA reimburses up to $15/mo in ATM fees. I probably get cash out no more than 3 or 4 times a year though.

I've seen this before and I'm not sure why they'd care. They get their money either way. It's your bank that's refunding it to you.

cc master race here. all transactions go on the cc for the cashback, perks, insurance, protection, etc. plus when anything goes wrong with cc in terms of fraud, it's not your bank account that's messed up while it gets sorted out. i don't need cash frequently enough for any transaction fee to be a concern, but i get free withdrawals from specific ATMs.

i check back on bank accounts once in a while to see if things have changed, but the fee structures are just ridiculous and I can't think of any rational reason to use them over cc.
