Anyone have experience going to "Luxury" Movie Theatres?

I don't go to the movies much but need to use a gift-card. The plus side is that you have to be 21+ since they serve booze, (no annoying high school kids) as well as reserved seating.

The down side could be distractions by waiters, people eating, and people getting buzzed and talkative.

Anyone ever done this? Should I find a way out?

Went once, to a large AMC dinner theater in Bridgewater, NJ. It was... ok. It's sort of the medieval times of cinema. The food is ok for cheap schlock, and the seats are wide and plush and very comfortable, with tons of leg room. If I went back that would probably be the main draw.

This makes sense to me. I guess for people with kids it is a night out?

My chick never saw Gravity, and that is the movie I could think of that should be seen in theatres, so that's what I landed on.

Also since there is constant booze, I know I will be needing to drain at least once, and I hate missing parts of movies that I haven't seen already.

Yes, it's the only way I'll go see movies now. So much better not having little kids around you, comfortable seats, and a waiter / waitress to bring you drinks. I've been to two theaters like this. One was better than the other, but both were much better theater experiences to me than regular theaters.

I've been to Jackson Square (think that's what it's called) in Hamilton, if that counts. Hey, pretty much every theater down south is luxury compared to ours.

We don't have anything of that caliber around here - those are actual home theater recliners - but we have an Alamo Drafthouse. I love the Alamo because it's full service, clean, and they are serious about kicking people out. I have never had a bad experience there. The only improvement I would make is the seating in the picture - I would pay higher ticket prices to have wider, reclining seats that are paired off. I don't like sitting next to people I don't know in packed theaters.

Out in Portland there is a place called Cinetopia that does the luxury theaters. You can order beer, nice seating and couches. It'd be worth it if it wasn't for the price though the fact that there is a 21 and older area is a huge plus if it is a movie where children might otherwise be in attendance.

So its $10/drink? Not the end of the world considering a popcorn is $6.25 at the regular places.

We go the regular AMC and Cinemark ones. The seats are fine, and you can reserve seats now when you buy anyways. We don't buy their overpriced food or drinks anyways, so having fancy table is of no use.

Oh hell yeah. Going to see Wolf of Wall Street at Cinepolis tomorrow with my wife. I've been a few times and I don't think I'll ever go to a regular theater again quite honestly. Sushi, martinis, leather recliners for two. It's awesome! Definitely recommend.

You won't even notice the waiters, they wear dark clothing and have very subdued electronic order taking devices. You have plenty of spacing between you and the seats next to you and tons of room to walk between aisles. You won't even notice them or anyone else.

I've never had a bad experience and while the ticket prices are expensive I think it's totally worth it. I've gone and ordered food and other times just ordered a sparkling water. I haven't had alcohol at one yet but might order a drink tomorrow.

That may be my favorite feature...I had never seen that until tonight when reserving the tickets. Same seating reservation system as an airline.....no worries about showing up early.

Cinepolis probably has the best in theater dining experience. Still hate servers in the auditorium but that's just me.

I control the thermostat.
I control the volume.

Only pay once for infinite tickets.

I've been to Cineplolis twice so far and once at the ArcLight in La Jolla. Cinepolis really is nice and worth the extra money sometimes. Not all shows are 21 and up so you do have to check that if you want alcohol. The servers aren't too annoying but the first time they came fifteen minutes from the end of the movie to close the tab. The second time they kind of rushed in right when the credits hit which was a little nicer. The food/drinks are pretty good but even higher priced than other theaters. The chairs are super comfortable and have a button to recline them to the level you want.

Most people don't really order dinner (but you could) so the food noise isn't bad and actually quieter since you're much farther apart than your neighbor. A lot of the seats are in pairs so you could awkwardly cuddle if that was your thing. The $15 cocktails keeps everyone from really getting buzzed.

I mostly go to Alamo Drafthouse theaters which aren't luxury, but they're nicer than normal theaters. They have waiters that bring you food and drink. They're just barely annoying, but it's worth the tradeoff.

The luxury theaters are nicer, but I don't really enjoy the experience that much more than the Drafthouse.

Well that is something completely different than your standard cattle pen.

Had a $50 gift card that went towards tickets and still ended up with a decent tab after drinks/snack.

Not something I do all of the time, but I can imagine it being tough to go back to a regular theatre for a crowded release.

A waiter hit my foot once trying to walk by me when I was fully reclined, but I am over 6ft and should have seen him coming. I didn't smell off-putting food or hear anyone chatting or ordering. Drinks were strong enough for the price.

only movie i've seen in the theater since i bought my house in 2012 is iron man 3. probably won't see another movie in the theater for a long long time.

Excuse my ignorance, I haven't lived in an area where basements are required since I was 7 or so.....

What is with the "windows?"

Also, if your woman can yell at you to take the trash out or to do the dishes, it isn't a luxury cinema.

Only way I watch movies when I go out with the wife is at one of those type theaters.
