I need to connect a computer to a ceiling mounted projector and am exploring various options for running cabling through the walls. As this will be a fairly Asizeable investment on my part I cannot afford to try the various methods and see the results for myself. I would like to preserve picture quality as much as possible.

Projector is XGA 1024x768

Option #1
-VGA signal booster http://www.kvm-switches-online.com/vs132.html
-100ft of shielded VGA cable

Option #2
-Cat5 VGA http://www.minicom.com/av_vdt.htm

Cost is a factor but right now I would just like input from people who have experience on this in terms of quality.

Thanks

well i really don't know anything about the VGA to CAT5, however since its makes the signal digital i would imagine it would preserve the picture quality to a greater degree than a really long analog cable. plus 300ft of well sheilded VGA cable could get pricey, and if it isn't high grade you'll probably get a crummy picture with ghosting :\

How far a run do you need?

I built my own with shielded cat5.

The vga connections can be bought at radio shack for about $6.
Shielded cat5 is a little harder to find, but I found 50' for $20 (You don't need the jacks)

Just solder the correct wires to the vga connection and your set.
The shielded part is very important and I'll try to dig up the thread over on AVSforum.

But I have a 30ft run to my projector with absolutely no problems. High definition looks fantastic and actually looks much better than my ultra expensive component cables. So 1024x768 will be no problem.
