Anyone have problems with an Asus P5B and a Netgear router?

Title pretty much sums it up. I've got an Asus P5B + Netgear WGR614v6 router and they refuse to play nice. My PC cannot get an IP but if I use my old router it works fine. I'd happily use my old router but then the various laptops around the house would have no internet since the old router is not wireless.

Just curious to know if this is a known issue.

Is the "Asus P5B + Netgear WGR614v6 router" connection wired or wireless?
What modem device is connected to the router?
For example: if you're on DSL, then you need to set up the DSL account name and password while logged onto the router.
Can you log onto the router (via a browser window)?

Its a wireless router but the connection is wired. The problem is simply convincing the router to give the NIC an IP address. I've tried other routers and other NICs and it seems the only problem is the combination I need to use. I cannot log into the router from the P5B machine.

Have you confirmed that the router works with any other machine?
Try connecting the router and some other machine, using a wired connection.
Then you'll know whether you're able to log onto the router, in some way.
Also, check for a possible router firmware update.

yes, the router works with every other machine in the house and has the latest firmware.
