I have a bit on my elbow scraped under a long-sleeve t-shirt (no debris which is good), not serious enough to see a doc... most of it is already scabbed which is great but there's about a dime-size redness/non-scabbed left that is not exactly puss-ing but sticky when I remove the band-aid everyday. It's been 3 days of neosporin but each day the same result.

Is this somewhat normal when skin is healing or should it go right to a scab unless it's infected? Should I let it air out instead? I don't think it's infected... just redness like a fresh scrape.

If it is true road rash and at that state after 3 days you'll need to scrub the spot vigorously with a washcloth and soap until you remove all of the "stickiness"- you may need to scrub until it bleeds a little.

Keep it dry, and if you still want to use salve of some sort use as little as possible... the thinnest film you can apply.

Tie something around your bicep to minimize blood flow so you don't feel this...

and then scrub the living shit out of it.

Lightly singe the outside edge of the wound, you can use something like a Bic lighter for this. You have to really burn yourself but it doesn't have to be like 3rd degree. This seals the wound. Usually what they do in hospitals but there they use painkillers and a more accurate flame.

Yeah, just scrub all that infected tissue away. It'll hurt like a bitch, but it will heal much more quickly. If you let it go and the infection spreads, they'll do it at the hospital anyway, and by then it'll be much worse. I remember my mom doing that to me once when I was a kid. She had to hold me down, but it scabbed up right away afterwards.

In the shower you should scrub the shit out of it and rinse it out, then kinda let it bleed and scab over.

You should see the videos of how they scrub roadrash off of the moron motorcycle riders that don't wear gear. I swear, that's all it took for me to wear all of my gear all of the time..

I remember when I fell down during a track meet and slide about 2-3 feet on me knees. The doctor basically told the nurse to hold me down and then proceeded to grab this sponge thing, dip it in some brown liquid (iodine?) and scrub the fuck out of it before wrapping it in gauze. Hurt like a bitch.

EDIT: I had the little track gravel embedded in there though.

In the videos I've seen of major road rash from motorcycle accidents they use a brush, similar to a kitchen scrub brush and scrub the embedded gravel and dirt out. I guess the smallest piece of dirt can cause infection so they make absolutely sure to scrub it out.

There is a good reason the debridement room in a hospital is soundproof...

It's plasma or pus. I raped my knees after dumping a motorcycle, and there was yellow pus-like stuff soaking the bandaids for the first week. After you start scabbing up, it slows down. To be on the safe side, change your bandage at least once a day, and clean it with alcohol or some disinfectant each time. It hurts like hell, but better safe than sorry.

Wow wow wow, scrubbing? I didn't scrub at all. Makes me glad I was going slow and at least wore jeans. There wasn't much dirt, just a few leg hairs that got trapped under the skin, which came back out after a few months.
