shoot while leading them...the hit boxes are complete bullsh*t. Shoot in bursts too. Just play a lot and you will get better. I enjoy fy_ maps myself because they are fast paced..none of that waiting crap

Do a search, this hitbox crap has been mentioned and debunked. There is nothing wrong with the hitboxes.

sorry but you are completely wrong. there was debate even on lan at cpl with what settings to use to make the hitboxes correct. there is a serious issue with the netcode in this game that needs to be addressed.

why wouldn't valve have done fixed this? Or are they having trouble doing so? Or is it not important to them?

okay.
people are complaining about hitboxes all the time because of "interping."
there is a seious issue if someone is using cl_interp 0 and cl_interpolate 0 (known for bets hitbox accuracy + choppiness) and are shooting at someone w/ defuault settings(0.1 and 1) because the 0/0 user can actaully see the default 1/1 person first. this is known as interping.
Luckly, CAL has the new CSP coming out that locks cl_interp 0.01 and cl_interpolate.
the problem is a lack of uniformality. 0.01 and 1 are perfectly fine for hitbox registration, that and a good 100 tic server.

ANYWAYS.. to get good at CS: S you should always set your site for the head, no matter what gun you're using. Use short bursts (1-3 shots every 1/2 second) while Ducked. when you get better, strafe left.. let a few off.. strafe right.. let a few off. You dont want your enemy to get a bead on you or you're dead. The best thing that has ever worked for me is strafing and shooting.. never letting the enemy get a bead on my next direction is key. almost 7 years of CS (cal leagues, OGL leagues and being the leader of a clan for that long has taught me enough). Spray and pray works sometimes too if you know which weapon you have. the proper amount of pulldown (the amount at wich to pull your mouse down in response to the weapons recoil) can be deadly... although it is called a noob way of killing, it works if you do it right. Another thing that helps is sound, pay attention to your radar and pay attention to who dies and where. I know this sounds like a bitch to do but once you get it firgured out... you'll be a menace. practice shooting walls, see what every weapon does while standing and ducking. You can get better by learning your surroundings, paying attention to whats happening to your team and playing smart. CS: S isnt a "Run and gun" game. Although many will tell you it is.. it is not.
out of 15K servers, you will find about 50 that are full of good, mature people. stick to those and you will learn a lot. Me writing about it wont get you any better =)
Good luck.

Dont buy anything at the start and follow other players and pick up their guns when they die. This forces you to not to run into open death, let others do it for you. You learn how your teammates play and you learn where your enemies are usualy located. Knowing this is half the battle.

The hitboxes are not messed up. The cl_interp x100 should match your ping. For example, if yuou average 100 ping, put cl_interp 0.1, if you average 50 ping, put cl_interp 0.05. Cl_interpolate 0 is a bit overkill, it makes your game all choppy, just leave it at cl_interpolate 1.

Lol Shadenfroh, that guy fvcked up his console so bad. Check out how a player's hitboxes are with cl_interpolate 1. Cheers!

The spread + netcode issues make run and gun pretty random and inconsistent. Make sure you are still or close to still when you shoot, and run between shots. For example, shoot a burst at the enemy, run behind some cover, and then stop and shoot another burst. I haven't had too much trouble with the hitboxes, but I try to find servers which I ping <50ms to.

Let me ask you something.... do you shoot the model or the hitboxes while playing online?
Oh wait... you can't see the friggin hitboxes can you? I'm sorry but you have been mislead into believing that since the hitboxes can be "made" to track ahead of the model that there must be some sort of problem. There isn't, because, hitting the model is what registers the hit not the damn hitbox. You are bitching about a problem that doesn't matter or have any effect on live server play over the net. Quit misleading the lemmings and do your homework before trashing a game.

Can an asshat jack with the settings over a LAN and screw a LAN party up? Sure... but who cares?

I'm not that great at this game, but I've gotten a lot better.

Use headphones, guy above is right...its so much easier to figure out where the footsteps are coming from with them than with speakers.

Some will disagree with me...but if you only have a little bit of money, buy armor and helmet first and then find a crappy player with a good gun and follow him (within reason). You can pick up guns later, but you can't pick up armor.

Don't run with a knife to go faster, run with a pistol. Knives used to be faster in regular CS, but in source pistols are just as fast. The scout actually makes you run faster.

They say aim at the head, but I usually aim at the neck and let the recoil do its thing. This of course doesn't apply when the enemy is far away.

Don't spray with the AK, that thing has like 3 accurate shots and after that its fvcking useless unless you're pointblank. The M4 is a much better sprayer, but still not great.

The best way to win though, is to shoot people in the back. Flank people. Rushing right into them = death. Of course, you don't always have a choice. I started using that TMP for awhile just for the hell of it, and after a few rounds I started doing really well. The reason was the gun was so inaccurate that in order to actually kill anyone I had to get behind them and shoot them in the back.

If you're in a firefight and you run out of ammo in your main weapon, DONT reload, switch to your sidearm and shoot them. It takes longer to reload than it does to switch to the sidearm. If you both are still alive after emptying the clips in both weapons, draw your knife (assuming he isn't a mile away). Plus, its really embarrassing to get knifed.

All very good points. Esspecially the one when you are broke. I often buy armor and a deagle. I ussually do well with a deagle anyways but this allows you to just grab some dead guys stuff.

Also with the AK I actually always aim at the head and do 1 or MAYBE 2 shots not ussully though.
Another thing that I think improved my accuracy was to change the size of the cross hair. In the console type cl_crosshairsize 5000 or another larger number atleast I think it crosshairsize, not possible but it will auto populate anyways... Anyways it makes the cross hair really small and you can pin point heads much easier. Works like a charm to for me.

I cannot tell you how important this is. I wear headphones EVERY time I play, it just makes it much easier. Sound is very important in CS:S (but, IMHO, sound was better in <1.6)

most important 2 things that people who suck don't follow:

with primary guns (rifles, smgs, etc, not pistols)

1.) Fire in bursts. a 3 bullet burst is the max before you lose any kind of accuracy. some weapons are better than others but always try to use a burst, wait until xhair resets, use another burst, etc.
2.) STAY STILL, crouching is best. it improves your acc and makes you head less apparent. if youre running around your acc is terrible, and you're not that much harder to hit believe me.

Just play way too much, that's how anyone gets good at those games. I've got proof of that, having played CS for five years.

Fire in bursts is definitely the best tip. 1-2 shots accurately aimed will kill with the quickness. Also, make sure you make use of the "last used weapon" key this enables you to switch if youre stuck with no ammo in primary weapon. Also, sort of cheap but I find the last used weapon key the best thing to use while sniping with awp/scout. Simply fire one round, hit last used weapon twice, fire another.

Sound is also EXTREMELY important as mentioned above, you will soon get a sense for the direction of sounds and then be able to attack accordingly. One thing that is also important is to play with patience, while its fun to run-n-gun, the guy who usually is cold chillin' in crouch/moving only when necessary wins.

Anyways, enough advice, go kick some ass!

If you are near a corner and you know someone is nearby around the corner, you have a huge advantage if you jump out at him instead of waiting for him to jump out at you, because if you jump out, you will see him before he sees you due to lag.

About 2), I find that I get headshotted a LOT more frequently when I'm crouching.
