Anyone have UPS packages that go through their local post office?

I just moved to Chicago and have been a longtime user of Amazon prime. Some of the packages I've ordered from Amazon recently via prime UPS 2-day have been shipped directly to my house and delivered by the UPS driver. Some have instead been dropped off at my local post office for fulfillment. The post office is slow as molases here, so my 2-day shipping ends up being about 4 days. Does anyone know why this happens? I cant seem to figure out why some of the packages are delivered directly by UPS and some are delivered by UPS to the post office, then onto me. Its not like I live in a rural area or anything, I'm in the middle of Chicago.

Most of my Newegg/Amazon orders (free shipping) are via FedEx/UPS then transferred to USPS. Tracking and delivery confirmation info is usually delayed.

Everyone's packages get destroyed all the time
everyone's mail gets lost
no one ever gets their money from rebates
everyone has problems with DRM that fucks up their system or doesn't allow them to play games.

Amazon does that a lot of the times for me. It's probably cheaper for them, and I'm guessing it's somehow more efficient on the logistical side. FWIW, I haven't had any packages get lost when USPS handles the final part of delivery.

If you aren't getting your Prime packages in 2 days or less, you can contact Amazon and they'll offer you an additional one month of prime as an apology. I think there's a limit of 12 times in a year for this.

Amazon did it once for some books I ordered via 2-day shipping. It was just as fast, but I've had issues with Smart Post or whatever they call it. I get the idea but in practice I found it is hit or miss.

Any other method, that does not include the USPS, has never been an issue. And, I usually just have to say; "I don't see an update on what I ordered - what is the status please?" And Amazon resends it, via Fed Ex, stating it was lost. I am not the one screaming it was lost. I simply ask, where is it, since the status update was never really closed (shows expected date of; whatever). And, they tell me it was lost.

Everything else you mentioned is just fine by me.

The status is "dropped off at local post office". I then contact Amazon and ask them whats up. They then resend it.

My stuff did come from one post office, but, when they close that location, this new post office has been the cause of this.

I have had it done by FedEx also.

FedEx calls it SmartPost. On paper it makes perfect sense, the post office is going to almost every address every day anyway, so having them deliver small parcels to a few address *should* save a lot of man hours and fuel costs. And maybe someday it will work like that. So far though, it doesn't work all that well in the real world. It looks like neither UPS nor FedEx hand over packages from their warehouses to the local post office daily. Maybe they hold them until they get a truck full for each local depot or only do it 2 times a week. Whatever the reason is it always seems they lose a couple of days on the changeover from UPS/FedEx to the USPS and the package sits there without making any progress.

my sisters does, as she has no local delivery for US mail or UPS. everything gets taken to the post office/POBox

the only company the will deleiver to her door is FedEx

Yep, pretty frequently actually. I'd go so far as to say that 8/10 of the last packages I got from Amazon were delivered by the postal carrier. Seems to be more and more common.

I haven't seen the UPS/Fedex/DHL handoff to USPS ever work very fast though. Thankfully Amazon usually uses some fly by night shipping company featuring some dude driving an old Civic with the company logo stuck on the side instead.
