Just curious - I will be one after January I'm pretty psyched about it, it's something I'd really like to do.

No. I do not enjoy hazing that creates an artifical sense of frats being worth it. Well, maybe it would be worth it if I thought gang raping was fun.

When I was living over in the dorms... god damn the frats were annoying.

Woken up at 2:00 AM by 2 dozen guys outside your window shouting "TAU KAPPA!!" at the top of thier lungs. And not jsut once, every couple weeks they did that.

Another guy I knew made himself a paddle. Big flat wooden thing, about 2 feet long, with a handle at one end... why? So he could give it to his "big brother" and then let him repeatedly smack hiom in the ass with it. What kinda dumbass ritual is that? And what kind of idiot actually does it?

didn't happen at my house.

These thread always end up with some asshats flaming about how fraternity members buy their friends and all the other bullshit that they throw. There was one about a month ago and that's what it ended up like.

Mosst of you have limited or no experience with a house and how it is run, so I would expect you to stfu, thanks. I was in a house for several years, and the stereotypes are just that, stereotypes. Sure some people fit them, but most dont.

The kind that goes out clubbing and drinking and getting totally fvucked off your face for fun and end up making yourself vomit as your stomach feels like sh!t! Hey its fun at times but dam its not sensible!

But I'd let no mofo hit me in the ass with a paddle I made! THAT is LUNACY!

you're not paying for friends. You're paying to do stuff with your friends. If you weren't friends with the guys in your house, then you wouldn't hang out and you wouldn't participate.

What's cooler to you, having a small apartment party where 3 or 4 guys sharing a place throw a party each dropping 40 bucks on it , or where 80 guys pool their money and have a kickass party with lots of chicks and beer?

so you are saying that one who is not in a frat is not able to attend or participate in large parties and is limited to 4-person sausage fests? your comments are as stupid as the ones cast again frat people

there must be something wrong with my school.... i attend all kinds of parties with lots of beers and girl, and never have to pay a cent. when i go out and spend my money, it's with people who are genuinely my friend, not people who 'pledged' and 'paid' dues to be in the same 'group' i'm in. so i have as much fun, minus the dues and formality of some formal organization with stupid greek letters with no real meaning.

I'm a frat brother... Alpha Tau Omega took me into their house a little over 2 years ago now.

And I'm staying away from any arguments as to why people should/should not join a frat and how cool/bad they are. I've argued that point too many times to count. If you're a subscriber do a full text search for posts by me with the word fraternity in it, all my arguments are there if you want to read them.

I rented a house with other guys and threw keg parties that were much better any of the local frats could muster.

Enjoy your Soggy Taco.

Ditto. You get to control your guest list more tightly too.

I live across the street from frat row on campus over here and BOY, are they stupid. One burning their own building down, underage guys found unconscious from illegal drugs, guys running a party for sorority girls and dumping maggots on them, hazings discovered even after they're told to stop, random members pulling out street signs, frat recruitments suspended by the university only a year after they last time they were suspended, a gazillion girls raped.

No thank you

Ignorant...

I'll take your flames to heart if any of you have pledged for a fraternity and dropped your letters. I would guarantee almost all the fraternity brothers on this forum have experienced some time in college as a non affiliated student. That means most of the affiliated members have seen both sides. How many of you here, who are bashing have experienced both sides?

All organizations have their good and bad, but here are some 'selective' facts that I am presenting from Greek101:
Of North Americas 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by Fraternity men and Sorority women.

7 out of 10 people listed in Who's Who are Greek.

85% of Fortune 500 executives belong to a Fraternity or Sorority.

40 of 47 Supreme Court Justices since 1910 were Fraternity men.

76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a Fraternity or Sorority.

Every US President and Vice-President, except two in each office, born since the first social Fraternity was founded in 1825, and 3 Canadian Prime Ministers, have been members of a Fraternity. Statistics show that Fraternity and Sorority members have a higher rate of graduation from college than do their non-member counterparts.

Anyway I wrote a paper about fraternity life for my Organizational Behavior class, I'm not blind, I know all about the negatives of Greek life, but nothing is perfect, people who complain about are the ones not in the know who take everything at face value...
