Anyone here an Excel Macro Whizz?

I am trying to write a macro that will open up a text file, format it and then automatically save it under a certain name. I can get it to do the formatting, but it just wont save- even though the save command is showing in the macro code. Any ideas?

What happens when the file tries to save? What kind of error do you get? If you record yourself saving the file, then place that same code in your macro you should be ok. Once I get the error, I should be able to help you out...

I'm not getting any errors, it just won't save anything. This is the save info from the macro

ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="C:\Macrofile\step1.xls", FileFormat:= _
xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", ReadOnlyRecommended:=False _
, CreateBackup:=False

Anything here jump out?

The only thing I can think of is that it doesn't recognize the active workbook properly. You may want to try putting in a line that re-activates the workbook right before the save procedure. Otherwise you might want to change "ActiveWorkbook" to the actual name of the workbook.

You may also want to change normal to "xlWorkbookNormal".

Really though, there is no logical reason for it not to work unless you have the same workbook file already open elsewhere.

I got it sorted. It wouldn't work when i used the keyboard short cuts, but if i go 'into' macros and run it it fine
