It is my opinion that IT auditors are the most clueless and useless people on the face of the earth.

That being said, if it is what you want to do then have at it. There is nothing exciting about it at all, just tons of "I haven't got a clue about network security so I'll write a big embarassing controls document and have the customer laugh at me to my face"

Edit - what does an IT auditor do?

They gather information on controls/procedures/policies. Then they look up what those terms actually mean, then they make ridiculous recommendations all in the name of the all holy SOX. It is a self made market, and they are doing quite well.

Haha, someone got yelled at by their boss for not having properly functioning controls.

Anyway, to kind of rebut some of your comments, most people that we meet with expect us to be experts. This is impossible. You might be an expert, but thats because you have worked multiple years at this company using the same system/systems. You have us come in there and expect us to know all of your company's acronyms and how all the systems work and interface with each other. Then when we go to another client, they expect the same. Imagine you go to a new company and be an admin for a new system and have your boss expect you to know everything the first day on the job.
