Helping to wear off some of that ennui from above perhaps

GFX cards really aren't that interesting any more. The slowing down of silicon and NV being so relentlessly competent render the chance of any real surprises in the near term essentially nil.

A bit like CPU's but at least still getting about +30-35%/annum. Also essentially nil chance of getting an outright bad card nowadays. Really baffling quite why they raise so much tribal passion.

Maybe 5(7?) years of 'easy' annual increases left, then we'll see.

VR is definitely a whole new genre but we've also had entire genres of games nearly go extinct then reappear in recent years with kick starter etc. The variety of games, of all sorts, available nowadays really is pretty astonishing.

Why would I be here if I didn't care about graphic cards ?

There's so many different type of games that if you don't like to play them either take a break or get another hobby..

I took break because there stopped being so many different types of games. For several years, if it game didn't have open-world levels, nonlinear gameplay, and branching dialogue trees, it was almost considered bad by default, despite the fact that so many games were terrible precisely because these features were forced on them. I only started playing games again when this attitude changed and the market became diverse again.

gpu is simply a tool needed to complete a task. (still cannot understand how some continue to get excited over 3dmark scores.)

for those of us that has a sense of reality. we choose a resolution. and we choose a game. lastly we choose a game setting. that is the overall task. then we buy what is necessary to get that task done.

Really? My GTX 970 is great @ 1440 with my specs. I never use AA as that was marketed for 640×480 back in the day that always stuck with me. Don't have a clue why ppl think it's for higher resolutions, but hey maybe I'm just old school & the marketing from 15 years ago stuck.

I see jaggies like a mofo if I don't use AA. Not all games but some games are pretty bad. Then again I play on a 55" 1080p TV.

No, you must have lost touch with reality here at Anand. We choose highest resolution possible, if not high enough, use DSR. We choose a game with great graphics. Then we max out the settings and push it further with config files. When it runs like crap, we say it's not optimized.

Some do, some don't. I don't think I'm the only one arguing that having an extra settings level above the top intended for future computers is a good thing, but that is definitely a contentious argument. I'm personally fond of Russian's screenshot based approach as well. At the end of the day you've got it backwards if the screen you care most about isn't the game but a menu full of drop-downs.

I dont foresee me upgrading my processor for at least another 5 - 6 years, my 3770K is still just as fast as whatever re-badged SB chips intel is selling today. As for my GPU I dont have any issues maxing every game I play out on my single 7970, so I dont plan on upgrading until I have to. Back in the day I would build at least 1 brand new high end computer a year. Ive had my current setup for at least 3 years now.

I'll be updating my 3770K this winter, but only because of Intel Retail Edge. My 290CF, not sure. I probably won't get into a game big time until Battlefield comes out. I spend too much time playing Supercell games on my tablet, so my PC is for pr0nz :sneaky:

I just don't game much anymore. Destiny burned me out and pissed me off.

Sure, I will buy the new Doom and Witcher 3, but I will wait until all DLC is packaged into a "complete edition" and will probably wait further until there is a decent Steam sale. I want nothing to do with incomplete games, day 1 DLC, season passes and other mechanisms that are designed to part me from my money.
I'm on the same boat - not a big fan of this all DLCs. And also I was waiting for complete edition of Witcher 3 with decent offer. Now it comes, not on steam but on GOG - $38.09 for game and 2 expansions. I think that few next weeks I'll be very busy

Just got samsung gear vr for my note 5.

Its the most fantastic experience since playing wolfenstein 25 years ago.

Bought 10 games in 2 days. More than i did for pc the last 7 years.

Played something about difusing a bomb with family. Hillarious.
Minecraft looks and feels like actually beeing there.
Gunjack looks like beeing driven by a huge gfx. Incredible.

And all for so little money.
