To me it seems like it gets old after a while. I feel like I have a powerful enough system for a long time.

Not to say we don't need faster just that it gets old after a while.

You're on an enthusiast forum and you're asking people if they care about about graphics card?

I went from being an enthusiast to only really caring when upgrade time comes around, which I align with video card releases, but it's been so poor for the last 6-8 years that I've not even really bothered. Being stuck on the 28nm process has been the worst time for providing more GPU horsepower for a long time. That's why the 1080 is so refreshing and whatever Nvidia have up their sleeves for a Titan like variant.

I hear ya. Mainly we need games to get us interested again.

The gaming industry is just getting boring, look at all these repetitive games
Mirror's Edge 2
GTA !! 5 !!
Deus Ex nr whatever
Mass Effect 4
Far Cry 10
Assassin's Creed 99
Need For Speed 99+1
Battlefield 1 bilion

There are games that try to give us something new like H1Z1, Life is Strange but majority of games are repetitive. I don't mind a good story but that rarely happens (I have faith in Mass Effect 4 though) , and look at all those not polished stuttering games ugh...

Maybe VR is really something that will make us feel young again

Also, I am so tired of 1080p resolution. But good 1440p panel + 144Hz and GPU to power that combo does not exist yet... boooring

You have a 980. I am confused what it means that you haven't bothered if you have one of the latest greatest cards. Especially if you are already looking forward to this generations Titan variant.

Interesting question, I quit gaming in 2010 and didn't play any games since, I had quite fun during sessions of many kinds of games, but what I regret I ever played is GTA series, it's really the worst game you can play, that game has absolutely no rules or system of any kind, it's just simulator of how public rampages look like from shooter's view.

Still Game, but I rarely get a Jonesing for a new Vidcard anymore. There was a time when they became obsolete and unable to play the latest games for one reason or another, but it has been years since that has been an issue. With DX12 that is likely to change for many, but I suspect I'll be good for 3ish years at least.

I have become such a jaded gamer it isn't funny.

The new Doom looks okay, but not quite enough to make me buy a new video card.

I'm still waiting for Half Life 3.

More specifically the frequency of updates. I used to get the flagship card of every new generation starting in the voodoo days, through the introduction of the geforce series, pretty much every 18 months it was a new video card with amazing gains.

That lasted until the 580, so that's a lot of cards, my memory goes back only so far and it's spotty but it's something like:

voodoo3000
voodoo5000
Geforce 2
Geforce 4 Ti4600
Geforce 5900
Geforce 6800
Geforce 7950 GX2
Geforce 8800
AMD 2x 4870 Xfire
AMD 5970
Nvidia 2x 580 SLI

Then I stopped, i skipped the Nvidia 600 series and 700 series and didn't bother replacing my 580's until the 980 range had been established for some time and prices had dropped to be reasonable, that's a huge gap of several generations, I just couldn't justify the minor generational increases anymore despite the fact that I have significantly more disposible cash these days than I've ever had before. It's just been stagnant for years and years.

I started with just 1 580 but with the 580s dropping in price it was just cheaper to buy a 2nd one to hold me over and that was plenty enough competitive vs the next few generations of cards. I'll likely go 2x 1080's when they've dropped in price to something reasonable.

I'm no longer really interested in 15% faster or 20% faster, who cares, you can get that from overclocking sometimes. I care about proper generational leaps in performance and 2x 1080s is going to provide something really special so I'm on board with that.

I still love gaming. The last year and a half I have really enjoyed GTA V, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and most of all Dying Light. They're some of my favorite games I have ever played. I really want to play the new Tomb Raider too, as I loved the last one. But I'm not going to until I upgrade my GPU to either the 1070 or Vega, that game looks too impressive to play on console settings just to get 60 fps on my 970. Anyone who doesn't absolutely love gaming right now and is buying anything more expensive than a GTX 950 is nuts.

I care much more about games that video cards. Unfortunately, there just hasn't been much coming out lately so it's hard to get excited about the recent card launches. I don't even know of a single game coming out this year that would warrant buying a card.

I find Paradox games far more entertaining and replayable than AAA pixel-pushing CGI interactive movies that I will miss little if I simply watched them on Youtube. Every variation of the FPS has been done to death by this point that it's really hard not to be jaded.

I have gone through cycles of this. Don't play games if you are not having fun. Sometimes I have month long periods when I don't care to game. Right now I am hooked on Overwatch. I the next Deus Ex will pull me in too.

On the hardware side, similarly I get excited to learn about the new stuff and to upgrade from time to time but not always. If you are jaded by it, then step away and pick up a new hobby. Eventually you will come back and it will be fresh.

This happens in other areas of life too. Sometimes I can't read enough sports news. Last year I bought an apartment and went on a three month long home improvement spree and now I can't stand the sight of Home Depot.

I'm in this same boat, it's hard for me to get drawn into something. I find now, I play stuff that is somewhat interesting to me like the long dark and terraria. I know that playing these games on the system I have is somewhat of a waste of the system. But I don't really care for anything else right now.

I'm beginning to wonder if I can get my CPU to last another 5 years and then upgrade everything.

I go trough cycles, depends on the games available. I am definitely more interested in the technology than the actual gaming.

Been around too long I guess, I'm looking more for real and entertaining gameplay then graphics bling nowadays. Good art is always nice, but not at the expense of polished gameplay.

This affects my hardware choices in that I don't see a need for the latest and greatest anymore.

PC gaming is only as fun as the current games available, and most games these days are uninspiring to say the least. DOOM was a great SP experience, the MP was a waste of time, Dark Souls 3 while a fun Souls game still has CPU bottlenecking in certain scenarios so that's that, and the myriad of generic first-person-shooters is not helping. The Witcher 3 is superb though, but lacks more NG+ options etc.

If you are into PC gaming only to break benchmark records, then well have fun! I like to follow new tech as I am interested in it, but I won't obsess over needing to have the latest and greatest each year.

I game on PC because it used to be the unique platform which offered exotic titles like the original Diablo and RTS classics, of course I love having optimal performance when PC gaming, but I no longer will lose sleep over having to dial back some settings to achieve a 60FPS/1080p, until I can't enjoy some of my favourite new titles with 60FPS/1080p at acceptable visual details on my 980/4790 combo then I might get the itch to upgrade, but I am hoping I can get a good two more years out of my current setup which I think is realistic all things considered.

I don't bench nor overclock, I just enjoy top shelf graphics. I also enjoy visually appealing hardware, I'm currently working on a few projects, one of which is my own build called "The Doom Machine Project" which will make sense once it's done. My problem is that I always hate traditional, I try to do unique or lesser attempted stuff which is very hard because it's difficult to find what I'm looking for and once I do, it always ends up costing a lot more money.
I'm afraid to tell anyone what I paid for a simple decorative case item because people here would bash me, but if I want a certain look, I'm wiling to pay.

Always question the question. It solves everything.

That's me as well. I go through a phase where all I think about is one project, such as building an arcade cab, redoing my living room or even improving the audio system in my home/car. But after a few short weeks, i'm completely over it and go full 100% on something else.

Which was never a problem until this year, I took on too many projects and never finished. I started a new, upright arcade cab, dismantled my old one and spent weeks just to get the outer structure just right..then I started on my living room, got halfway, then started on something else.....I have yet to return to any of them.

I buy and play less than 10 games per year. recently I have gotten into 2 android games. as I was hunting for a used 980 ti AIB, I suddenly had this wth am I doing it for moment after only 30 mins gave up and still enjoying my android games in the last 12 months I have only enjoyed total war warhammer and witcher 3 on my pc. I also have a 1800$ gaming laptop. kinda crazy how much money I spent on hardware just for a few games. I might just sell it and get a laptop with a decent apu.

about time to stop.
