All I'm saying is I can pull authentic examples of burritos or tacos de harina in Mexico all day long. You may have been to Mexico 100 times, but I guess you haven't been to the places that serve burritos.

They may not be common but they are definitely a regional cuisine.

dude...juarez is basically el paso.

pfffft.

it's like saying al fredo is real italian food. Like 10 people in Italy eat that bullshit.

This is proper interpretation. I'm from a different part of Mexico where we only eat tacos.

But either way a burrito is just a taco that's had the end folded in: it really is all the same.

techically he is correct on that. Burritos are texmex and are not common in Mexico.

...and pizza wasn't common all over Italy. It's still Mexican. Decades ago when my mother was interning for the dept of sanitation a Mexican family that also worked there started brining in extra food to sell to coworkers. This was their own home-made cooking and not requested by their non-Mexican coworkers. You know what they were selling?

Burritos.

Next thing you're going to tell me that Maine Lobster isn't a US food just because it isn't common all over US.

Go to Mexico, order a burrito and tell me how that goes. Not a tourist area, I mean where only Mexican people are. Burritos are as Mexican as a Choco Taco.

Go to McDonald's. Order Maine Lobster. Tell me how that goes.

Retarded point is retarded.

When I lived in San Diego my surfer friend from San Blas, Mexico (Robert Cass) was eating at a Mexican place in OB with my niece and me. They finished before I did and were ready to go so I rolled up the rest of my food in my last tortilla and did my best to close it up like what I see when I order one from a restaurant. He looked at what I had done, chuckled, and commented that it was better than he could have done when he was genuinely born and raised in Mexico.

Sure sounds like he acknowledges that Burritos are Mexican.

The problem there is, there are sit down Mexican places that don't cost any more and are infinitely better. Chipotle next to a shit sit down chain like El Torito's more expensive than all but a handful of Mexican spots. So yes, sorry I expect a GOOD burrito when it's as expensive as a sit down place. Your Morton's analog would work if BK was as expensive. BK sucks and it's CHEAP. Chipotle sucks and is EXPENSIVE for what you get. When I go to Taco Bell I don't expect much, and the cheap ass prices reflect that. $7 for a small burrito at Chipotle, sorry I expect a lot more for my money. And yes it's small for what you pay for it.

$1.50 cheaper then Chipotle, twice as much food and in another galaxy flavor wise. And it has nothing to do with authentic or not, of course it's not authentic. Food doesn't have to be authentic to be good, they can't even get that right though.

Never eaten there, but at worst it won't be good (the same) I don't see how it can be as bad or not as good. I need to go Yelp some reviews I think there's one somewhere around me.

*EDIT* Yelp'ed it, 1st picture showed a soda cup and it says "Mexican grill" on it, don't need to read a review this place is going to fucking suck donkey schlong. It could even be worse than Chipotle.

Have you tried getting good Mexican food while outside of L.A.? You can, in the Southwest and Nor Cal. But good luck anywhere else. Don't try it in Louisiana. It's not possible. Your best bet is decent nationwide chains.

But, it's also Louisiana, the hub of awesome food. You don't need Mexican food.

I went there 5 years ago, first and last time. They overstuff their burritos......even when I was a fat ass, I wasn't able to eat the whole thing.

And then there was the whole thing of how it made me feel. Stuffed, tired and just miserable/depressing.

Never went back.....

We have a local go to place for Mexican food, 10x better.

Who the eff cares. Mexican food (specifically the Mexican food that Americans eat) is all the same ingredients anyway.
Discounting the burritos authenticity because its from a border town...dumb. That's like saying every European food isn't authentic because every town in Europe is pretty much a border town.

If you want to be authentic, not too many Mexicans eat with a flour tortilla. It's mostly corn tortillas because most of the population is central.

I love Chipotle, but District Taco is better. I also love good Tex Mex, around here Uncle Julio's is the place for it.

I have zero respect for the whole "but it's not authentic" argument. My taste buds care not about authenticity. Is it good? That is important. Is it healthy, fresh food? That too is somewhat important. Is it authentic? Only important as a curiosity, as in being able to say "huh, thats what an authentic taco tastes like", otherwise not important at all.

damn you live in arlington and uncle julios is your go-to for tex mex? it's not bad but that place is the definition of average. i just ate at la sandia last week in tysons. it's not the best ever but it's better than the run of the mill places like uncle julios.

i'm just glad i have about 10 different peruvian chicken places within 5 miles of me. they all own and all have their own distinct taste.

Chipotle is overpriced around where I live. A burrito bowl with chips and salsa and a soda will cost you over $12!

Chips/drink is the one that'll fuck you up. 3 chicken tacos and water = $8 well spent

chips/salsa/guac are never a good deal at Chipotle. the burrito or bowl or tacos are already way more food than anyone needs for a single meal, anyway. So it's like throwing money away.

that, and paying $1-2 for $0.10 of carbonated sugar syrup? why oh why oh why do people still consume that crap today? Water + free lemon wedges at the Chipotle bar = epic free & refreshing lemon-flavored drink.

btw--ate at Chiptole two weeks ago. neither of us died. I did notice that this one Chipotle had no lemon wedges available, so wondering if this is part of their response to contamination? This was my first time in this Chipotle, and it looked as there was never a space for those wedges, anyway (tiny soda/hotsauce/utensil area)

They might have removed them - I noticed the same last time I was at chipotle post ecoli

3 chicken or beef tacos for $3.75 at a sit down Mexican place. But I went with a carne asada burrito + 1 chicken tacos for $7 and they taste so much better than Chipotle.

Not around here!

You should move to So Cal then, finding $1-1.50 tacos here is easier than finding a speed freak in a trailer park. I had 3 tacos, Elote (corn on the cob dipped in Mayo with chili powder & parm cheese sprinkled on it and drizzled with Tapitio) and a draft beer for $6 the other day.
