Anyone here ever move for a job to a place with no family/friends?

Just an update:

The offer has been made and I am flying to Dallas next week to spend a few days out there.

Anyone here from the Farmers Branch/Addison/Carollton area? What about Dallas in general? I might want to bounce some questions off of you.

I have a friend that I was dating that moved out to Chicago from LA.
She struggled big time... probably still is. She would call me every other weekend saying how alone she was and how it sucks, etc, etc.

It depends on you really. I would do my best to go out, try and meet people whereas my friend was afraid...
Generally, I think its hard to adapt to an environment you are not familiar with. It would take time to adjust and meet people. Depending on your personality and goals, that time can either be shorten or stretched....

Yup.
Well I did know a couple guys from the internet, but they lived far enough away that it was a pain in the ass to hang out.

It sucked, so I moved back home.

IMO Family > Increase in salary, but everyone has to live their own life.

i did that for undergrad.... moved from civilization (metropolitan dc area) to kentucky.

i make friends quickly, though, so it wasn't too bad.

Looks like this summer is the time to pack up and move... I recently did it two months ago... no friends/family down here in Tucson... just a job offer and a dream.

I'm doing fine I think... making new friends both from work and out of work via church/roommate... miss home alot tho, but I guess that can't be helped.
