I don't think PTSD is bullshit. I think PTSD is very often lied about and used as a bullshit excuse, but I think it is a real condition. From watching TV? I find that to have nothing to do with what causes PTSD. Example:
You are sitting at home, just finished setting the table for dinner and are waiting for your wife and baby boy to come home to eat what you cooked for them. You get a phone call and expect it to be your wife, but instead its someone from the CHP who has just notified you that your wife and son were both killed on their way home, not by a car accident, but murdered in a car jacking. Their bodies left in the street and witnesses said they heard your boy crying for his daddy before he fell silent.
This will cause PTSD in some people. It can lead to acute anxiety, acute phobia of everything from eating dinner to telephones.
The condition is caused by mental trauma. How that trauma takes place is irrelevant.
