Anyone here had a vasectomy before?

A doctor may refuse a younger guy because they may not have entirely finished growing, which could cause operations like that to have some severe complications down the road.

Covered by insurance, expense = 0. The insurance companies would prefer to pay for a vascectomy rather than a childbirth.

Age restrictions?, depends on the doctor. My doctor did take into consideration my age (29 at the time) and number of children (2) so their wasn't much discussion about that (age).

I think most doctors would be wary of clipping a 23 yo, especially if he is childless.

They didn't ask for proof of fatherhood....

ive had one. it was relatively quick and painless. initial visit for a check-up and overview of the procedure. i was only 23, and the doctor never asked any questions. maybe because i already had 2 kids. on the day of the surgery, i took one valium to help relax the old boys and get em haning nice and low. one shot locally, one small incision, two snips, two stitches and i was done. my nads were sore for a few months afterward from scar tissue, but i have no issues from it now. insurance paid all but the initial 15 co-pay on the first visit.

if you already have enough children for you, i would recommend it. its nice to not have to worry about more children, contraceptives, etc.

Here's my input: Don't do it this early. If at age 27 - 30 you do decide that is indeed what you want, then have a vasectomy done.

Well, I guess the good news is that it's reversible, so it might not be of concern to you. In that case, you should find at least one doctor that's willing to clip it for you.

Nope. There are enough kiddos in the world, I don't feel the need to procreate anymore than my one. If I really felt the urge, I'd adopt or do foster kids, but that's not likely either.

Actually, we have discussed having foster kids, but it'll be after ours are grown & out of the house.

I'm 29 and actually just had the procedure done last Friday. The most painless thing was the shot to make it numb. I have been married for 5 years and have two beautiful girls. Just make sure this is what you want to do like everyone else is saying. I don't regret it just because I don't see myself taking care of more than 2 kids. These two are hard enough by themselves.

From my understanding it's pretty simple now-a-days to reverse the procedure so freezing the little swimmers isn't necessary.

It's no big deal... I even went to work the night I had it done (operation in the am, at work 6 hours later). (Every once in a while, the picture of a coworker holding the sign "Neutered" above my head gets reposted to our employee bulletin board.) Although the procedure is "reversible", doctors will caution you not to count on the reversibility of it.. apparently it's not a 100% given that it'll be able to be reversed, due to factors such as scar tissue.

In reference to freezing sperm. I already have 2 girls so even if my marriage doesn't work out, I would be very content with my 2 kids. The next pair of diapers I change will be my grandchildren.
