Nope, because they're all on the screen protector. I put one on my S3 the moment I took it out of the box it arrived from Amazon in.

I usually slap a screen protector on. With my last phone (Gnex), I ended up with a ton of scratches on the protector. After a year, I took it off and went bare with it. Towards the end, I got maybe 2 scratches on the actual glass. I have a screen protector on my current phone (S4) and will probably end up taking it off when it gets scuffed up too.

Would having a lot of scratches ruin the display of the phone when it is turned on?

When I had my iPhone 5 I had some hairline scratches. It didn't affect my screen when it was on and I could only see them when the screen was off in optimal lighting so I didn't care.

All in all, I role bare on all my phones.

Screen protector, always. It's the first thing I do when I get a phone. The second is put a case on.

I've always used screen protectors but now I'm considering not using one with my Galaxy S4. Not because it has the more scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 3, but because I've realized that my screen protectors always get scratched up and I continue to leave them on anyways. I never see the scratches when the screen is on. So why bother with screen protectors and deny myself the feel of the Gorilla Glass? I tell myself a scratch free screen will give a better resale value, but the value's always s*** anyway after 2-3 years.

Do they have a tendency to shatter? I noticed this when using glass protectors on my camera and stopped. They're very expensive too.

No, I have dropped my S4 a lot with no shatter. My wife's iPhone 5 one chipped a little though. Its so nice to feel glass on the screen.

I'm always, what I consider to be, pretty careful with stuff. But, if I don't use a screen protector, I always end up with hairline scratches. You can't see them when the phone is on, but turn the screen off and angle it in the light and there they always were.

I, too, have switched to using a glass screen protector. I was a bit hesitant at first, since they're so expensive but, now, I can't imagine not using one.

I switched off glass protectors since it seems to always get pushed/lifted up by the case I'm using :/

HTC HD7 went through a year of use with no scratches.
HTC Titan went through a year of use with no scratches.
Nokia Lumia 920 has been through seven months of use with no scratches.

No screen protectors. I'm actually baffled at how people scratch up their phones.

I did not need one on my HTC Inspire 4G (had for about 2 years) and I haven't put one on my HTC One.

With the Insire 4G, I had maybe one or two hairline scratches that were only visible under certain lights and at very specific angles. The screen stayed perfect other than that.

With the HTC One, the screen is still perfect after a 3 months or so.

I'm not overly careful with my phones. They either stay in my jean pockets (with a pen and pencil, but my keys go in the other pocket) OR I sit them out face up. I make sure I don't rub them up against, say, the small metal button-like-things above my pockets, but I don't have to actively think about not scratching my screen. Most of those small actions (like avoiding metal nubs on jeans) become habitual rather quickly anyway.

With today's glass screens, you almost have to try to scratch them IME.

I didn't put a screen protector on my S2X, and it doesn't seem to be worse off, after almost two years of use. I'm just being reasonably careful with it, and it's completely scratch-free so far ^^

Same here. OG Droid, HTC Thunderbolt, Galaxy Nexus, Moto RAZR HD, HTC One. Never had a screen protector on any of them, never had a single scratch. I did put TPU Gel cases on the Nexus and One though, makes them easier to grip.

I see a lot of people put the phone screen down on desks, tables, etc. Thats how it gets scratched up, user error.

Yeah, I buy cases with what screen protector I want considered. Wait until someone else on xda does the testing then follow their success.

What I love about a screen protector is that I don't HAVE to care. If you are in a rush and you throw your keys in the same pocket as your phone it isn't the end of the world. Or for my wife, her throwing it in her purse.
