My wife has really gotten into running. 5K, 10K, stuff like that. She's pushing me to do the same. I used to run in high school after getting kicked off the baseball team. I support her running because it's healthy and cheap (just need sneakers and the open road) but I cannot do it myself. I only ran sprints, not long distance and I get bored quickly. Now she's saying I'm weak and soft and a whole lot of other nonsense. But I have little interest in running long distances. There is no motivation.
What I'm trying to ask is, how do long distance runners keep up the concentration? I've tried focusing on breathing but the slightest annoyances bother me (like smelly air). Also, music comes and go in 4 minutes spurts and can also prove to be a distraction. Anyone ever gone from sprinting to long distance?
