Anyone here know where to buy a leather couch at a decent price?

I've spent a lot of time looking for a couch like this:

http://www.bryght.com/product/1385/echo-oxford-black-sofa

for a price around $2000. But it seems like every place I look (crate and barrel, room and board, restoration hardware, interior define, west elm, pottery barn, etc) all cost at least $3000.

I don't want a traditional couch - just something like the one in the link. But it seems like these couches just don't exist at the $2000 price point. Am I missing any places I haven't looked at?

I am trying to get a good quality leather, not the fake bonded leather that's used everywhere.

I'd say most sofas aren't made in China due to cost of shipping. Same goes for mattresses and most major appliances.

Leather sofas are one of those things that seem like a good idea but in practice are terrible and need to be covered most of the time...

unless you're spending $10K+, most sofas are made in China. This is according to an upholsterer who came to fix an issue with my sofa. He's been in the business for multiple decades now

You can always get an $800 "leather" couch from the likes of Bob's Discount Furniture, but you get what you pay for.

Best way to get a deal is to find a furniture store that's going out of business (for real, avoid the "GOING OUT for BUSINESS!" scam) and get one on discount from them.

Probably a furniture store like The Brick or Arctic or something. Most even deliver for free, right into your house. You're not going to get that from an online order. It will cost a couple hundred to ship via fright and show up in your driveway on a skid. Actually not even sure how a couch would show up, kinda awkward to put that on a skid. Probably just as is I guess. Never ordered something that big online before.

Just because you can`t afford something doesn`t mean it is not at a descent price......

That couch, built properly with high quality leather should cost $3-4000. To get it for less, you will need to find it used, or legit overstock/clearance (i.e. not from a 'discount pretend overstock outlet').

It's not a great idea to buy furniture without having a chance to see and try a floor model.

I went through this about six weeks ago.

The advice that I garnered from the Internets consists of something like: you want top-grain leather (real leather) and hardwood frame. You don't want leather match, bonded leather, etc. which is many other ways of saying fake leather or leather patched together from scraps of leather.

Reviews on leather couches are all over the place.

I was looking at a Simon Li leather couch at Costco for $900 (I think), and I decided to buy this one instead: http://www.homeclick.com/abbyson-living-sk-1706-brn-3-western-top-grain-leather-sofa/p-830180.aspx

At the time, Homeclick (which I had never heard of) had a $100 off deal on Abbyson Living stuff. Delivery and setup was free, and I paid no sales tax in California. The Abbyson sofa also has recliners built in on the two end seats. Homeclick is a Google Trusted store, and they offered that "service" for free (it's not clear to me if that's real protection, but I took it).

It took about 12 days for delivery, but it was two dudes in a huge Abbyson Living furniture truck. They were on time, professional, and they set everything up and took away all the trash. I'm happy enough with the purchase and with the deal.

I'd probably have been okay with the one from Costco too, but I would have had to figure out how to haul it home and move it into my place. I also wanted to try out the recliner thing. So, again, happy enough with the purchase that I made.

If the couch doesn't last for ten years, I guess I'll be disappointed... but that's yet to be seen.

Edit: I had a super-comfy microfiber couch made by Benchcraft for ~11 years before the leather couch. As someone stated above, LEATHER IS COLD! Just be aware.
