I'm about to go on a major diet/exercise expedition in the next few weeks. Anyone here have any good success stories when it comes to losing weight?

I'm trying to lose at least 40lbs over any given amount of time.

I lost 10 pounds when I was 12 or so and gained it all back in highschool/college drinking beer and I'm in the process of losing the final pounds of it now. I never let myself get that big.

I have lost weight and grown taller all through high school so far by eating a whole ton of pizza and not exercising very much. Freshman year i wore 34 inch waist type pants and now im going into senior year i just bought 30 inch waist pants and they are a kinda too big im finding. Lucky me.

EDIT: I thought I may add that I am marginally interested in weight loss although im not interested in losing weight. I have read a bunch of stuff about how to lose weight for no reason other than I thought it was interesting. Basically its a simple process but its all about willpower.

I lost 20 pounds in the last month and a half. I finished it off with a 3-day juice fast as a natural cleanse. I read a ton of information about this stuff, so if you have any specific questions just pm me.

Some easy things you can do (these are helpful for losing weight and just being healthier in general)...
1. No more soda (especially diet soda), no fried foods, no margarine.

You should never have any of those, they're terrible.

2. Find an activity that you enjoy doing that gets you exercise (basketball, tennis etc.)

3. When you eat, take smaller bites and chew more.

4. Drink more water.

I was actually going to do a full write-up on my juice-fast/colon cleanse, but I was a bit lazy. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

In the past year I've gained about 40lbs and lost just about almost all of it with a net loss of 40lbs.

Went from 125ish to 165ish in 8 months in my senior year of hs. Ran 20lbs of that off during the summer, gained another 10 back during winter, ran almost another 20ld off of it since then.

I just dropped 20lb it was so easy. Two words Lean cuisine. I didn't even exercise and the pounds just dropped off. They only 250 to 300 calories so you can pretty much eat as many as you want. GL

I lost 10 lbs in one month by eating lots of bran and prunes

Techhead, you didn't gain those 40 lbs overnight so don't expect to lose it overnight either. Your best bet would be to do a lot of cardio, cut your caloric intake and more or less change your lifestyle. If you drink booze cut that out as it is all empty calories and it will impede on your efforts to lose weight.

I remember posting this same story in a YAWLT before. When I started senior year I was 5'11 185 lbs. The most I had ever weighed, my body fat at one point was 29% or so. I joined the cross country team with the ambitions to train and join the Navy. About 5-6 months later i had dropped down to about 145 lbs. That summer I continued running and even picked up swimming. Keep in mind im running at least 3 miles and swimming at least 1000m each time. At the end of the summer I had gone down to an unhealthy 130 lbs. So in less than 1 year i had lost 55 pounds. Btw my diet consisted of pretty much anything i wanted, lots of carbs, cereal, etc.

A few months after I had dropped down to the 130 area I wanted to gain weight back and started lifting in April 05'. I continued lifting with the intentions of getting built and today I weigh 167 lbs, 11% BF. My target goal is 185 lbs 11% body fat.

I lost 60 lbs on the Atkins diet. The REAL Atkins diet, not the one people who don't read the book claim to be on,eating bacon and grease all day. I ate steak and chicken, and after a couple weeks I introduced green leafy veggies into the mix.

I have problems with carbs, always have. If I eat a slice of pizza I'm going to sleep in a half hour. If I ate the same number of calories of brown rice and chicken, or at the same amount of pizza and ice cream, my body reacts drastically differently.

People who say it's simply about counting calories are dead wrong. There is no way you'll maintain the same shape by eating 2500 calories of doritos, soda, and Pizza as opposed to eating 2500 calories of chicken, brown rice, and vegetables. Same number of calories, but you'll look like a slug on the soda and doritos, while you'll be more muscular and lean on the chicken and veggies.

Clean up your diet. You'll lose at least 10 lbs if you stop munching completely and eat only healthy foods.

No soda, no munchies. If it's in the chip, cracker, cookie or dessert isle, it's evil. Make a point to have all your carbs be complex and 100% whole grain.

Start exercising regularly. Make it your priority in life. Do it first thing in the morning so you have no excuse and remember, the ONLY excuse for missing an exercise/gym day is if the activity will make your injury/illness worse. Do this and you'll lose the weight slowly, and steadily. The key is to advance the intensity of your exercise as you get in shape.

If all this is too hard, there is always cocaine, heroin and cigarettes.

I'm losing about one pound a week by just eating healthier, normal sized portions.

I lost 50lbs about 3-4 years ago just by eating smaller portions and cutting back on the junk food.

I lost weight doing what the people here did, too. And trust me, my metabolism dropped and I eventually gained it back. If you seriously want to lose weight, and KEEP IT OFF, exercise and good eating is the way to go. By good eating I mean like 2200 Calories a day, 6 meals a day, high protein, high fiber, low fat. Sh1t, you might even GAIN weight this way (pure, lean muscle), but you will lose a LOT of fat, and your newlyfound ripped body will look great. Whatever you do, don't expect fast results the healthy way, stay very consistent, and make exercise and eating good a habit. Go to http://forum.bodybuilding.com/ for advice, it can change your physical life around... great site.

I've lost 20 pounds over the last 3 months. I cleaned up my diet and I lift weights 4 to 5 times a week. I haven't done much cardio at all.
