There were many days in college that I didn't drink. Dozens, I would wager. I mean, I was there for five years!

Never drank a drop here, other than when I was like..5.
Alcoholism runs in my family, I'm on antidepressants, it's expensive, and I can have just as much fun without the negative reprecussions without it.
Like some poster said, it's an excuse for people to do crap they wouldn't normally do, such as cheat on their boyfriend/girlfriend. Personally, I find that disgusting.
The ignorance is strong with this one....
Heh, how so?
All of the "mistakes" I ever hear of happens at a so-drunk-you-can't-walk party.
Most young adults/teenagers would have far better lives if they didn't drink (totally IMO).
If by "better" you mean more law abiding and not doing dumb things I agree. But I would argue that a "better" life includes having crazy experiences, doing stupid things, and having fun. Sure you don't have to drink to do any of those things, but if you've never got drunk with your buddies and just did the stupidist things b/c they seemed smart when you were toasted, then I think you are missing out on experiences. But to each his own. I've never spend 60 hours a week playing WOW but I'm sure that has a lot of fun all it's own...come to think of it, I should try that too some time. Perhaps while dirnking?

"Had alcohol" or "gets plastered" are two completely different things.
To most people.

Me and my friends have crazy adventures, while sober. That way, you can remember them
And I didn't mean law abiding- I don't care about the law. It's just that 2/3rds of the parties my sister comes home from she ends up crying about/feeling bad/whatever.
And yet she goes. I don't get it.
And it's the same (albeit to a lesser extent) with my friends that drink.

I had alcohol maybe once or twice in college, but that's about it. Am I an oddball? It seems like everyone gets plastered in college.

You're parties must suck then. Please don't generalize on just your PARTIES.
Hell yeah! Fun in the sense of, "Thank god it's Monday!" :laugh:Originally posted by: davestar

Weekends are my time to play catch-up on homework. Getting drunk would interfere with that.
And, the idea of losing any self-control is quite unappealing to me. I like to retain what control over my mind I do have.
But what doesn't do anything for me may not be relevant to anyone else.
sounds like a fun time.

So a person can't have a good party without relying on a drug?
Wow..wow.

Great post. Congrats on your great experiences with alcohol. I know it can be great and also know I've never really gotten there with alcohol. Now, with some other drugs... yeah!! OK, I'm quite curious about this website you refer to but didn't link or spell out. If you aren't comfortable posting in the forum, could you PM me the link? Thanks.Originally posted by: Captain Howdy
LOL, at anyone that thinks drinking automatically erases your memory of that night. My most memorable nights involved copious amounts of alcohol. (At least 12-16 "drinks" worth) In my 7 year experience with alcohol, I have been so drunk to black out and forget what happened only twice, and one of those times had me wound up in the hospital. I am not saying it is not a dangerous drug, I am not stupid, but treated correctly, it can be as beneficial as any drug.
Of course, like any drug, it affects people differently, but I can personally say it brought out a fun loving part of me I try not to forget. There has always been a complex relationship between humans and psychoactives. It is not one that many people care to understand, and just feed in to any propaganda they feel necessary, whether it be good or bad. However, there is a website that exists with, in my opinion, the best information about these psychoactives available. Obviously, it is not a forum, but a great site that has mostly unbiased info.
Yeah, I would prefer a society where we could actually experiment with a multitude of drugs to help each person find out what is right for them, but we must face the facts. America is becoming a borderline police state, where insurance companies and corporate feudalism control governmental actions. Go ahead and regard my post as tinfoil material, but to not see this change in policy would be rather blind. I am no conspiracy theorist by far, and hold pretty normal political views. However, I also think that PC stuff is getting out of control, and wonder why you cannot even work at a gas station without them firing you over what you do in your free time. (Random drug tests, FTL)
