There were many days in college that I didn't drink. Dozens, I would wager. I mean, I was there for five years!

Alcoholism runs in my family, I'm on antidepressants, it's expensive, and I can have just as much fun without the negative reprecussions without it.

Like some poster said, it's an excuse for people to do crap they wouldn't normally do, such as cheat on their boyfriend/girlfriend. Personally, I find that disgusting.

The ignorance is strong with this one....

Heh, how so?

All of the "mistakes" I ever hear of happens at a so-drunk-you-can't-walk party.

Most young adults/teenagers would have far better lives if they didn't drink (totally IMO).

If by "better" you mean more law abiding and not doing dumb things I agree. But I would argue that a "better" life includes having crazy experiences, doing stupid things, and having fun. Sure you don't have to drink to do any of those things, but if you've never got drunk with your buddies and just did the stupidist things b/c they seemed smart when you were toasted, then I think you are missing out on experiences. But to each his own. I've never spend 60 hours a week playing WOW but I'm sure that has a lot of fun all it's own...come to think of it, I should try that too some time. Perhaps while dirnking?

Me and my friends have crazy adventures, while sober. That way, you can remember them

And I didn't mean law abiding- I don't care about the law. It's just that 2/3rds of the parties my sister comes home from she ends up crying about/feeling bad/whatever.

And yet she goes. I don't get it.

And it's the same (albeit to a lesser extent) with my friends that drink.

People have different interests. I don't understand why certain people don't even taste alcohol, but that's their choice. I drank in high school and continued to drink at college. It was fun seeing all the newbies get absolutely plastered. I discovered my limits early on and I figured how much I needed to get in the 'zone.' It's just something that I've enjoyed since high school and to be honest, alcohol is a good excuse for ****** you can't do sober. What's wrong with that?

College is about time management and motivation. You have to study as hard as you party--if you're at a good school.

I drink occasionally but only enough to get buzzed (or maybe a past that point). I've never drunk enough to throw up. I dunno, feeling it is fun to a point, but throwing up kind of isn't.

I only drink during Christmas/Christmas Eve with my family and relatives. Been doing that since 8 years old for 14 years now. My first was a shot of vodka on december 25th, 1993. That's the only time of the year or place I would drink. I know better than to drink during the school semesters.

I only drank one time, maybe. Wasn't in the habit of drinking. Rarely if ever. The one time I did it was sort of an experiment. Rum and cokes until I just got sick and puked and puked. I have never had another rum and coke.

It's all in the experience. There are alot of nights in HS/College that I shared with some good friends, and without drugs/alcohol they would not have happened, and those are the nights I will always remember (sort of haha). So, in the end, whether you are drunk, high or sober, one must live life to the fullest and cherish the experiences they have.

[/drunken ramble] Cheers to anyone who is drinking tonight

So a person can't have a good party without relying on a drug?

Wow..wow.

LOL, at anyone that thinks drinking automatically erases your memory of that night. My most memorable nights involved copious amounts of alcohol. (At least 12-16 "drinks" worth) In my 7 year experience with alcohol, I have been so drunk to black out and forget what happened only twice, and one of those times had me wound up in the hospital. I am not saying it is not a dangerous drug, I am not stupid, but treated correctly, it can be as beneficial as any drug.

Of course, like any drug, it affects people differently, but I can personally say it brought out a fun loving part of me I try not to forget. There has always been a complex relationship between humans and psychoactives. It is not one that many people care to understand, and just feed in to any propaganda they feel necessary, whether it be good or bad. However, there is a website that exists with, in my opinion, the best information about these psychoactives available. Obviously, it is not a forum, but a great site that has mostly unbiased info.

Yeah, I would prefer a society where we could actually experiment with a multitude of drugs to help each person find out what is right for them, but we must face the facts. America is becoming a borderline police state, where insurance companies and corporate feudalism control governmental actions. Go ahead and regard my post as tinfoil material, but to not see this change in policy would be rather blind. I am no conspiracy theorist by far, and hold pretty normal political views. However, I also think that PC stuff is getting out of control, and wonder why you cannot even work at a gas station without them firing you over what you do in your free time. (Random drug tests, FTL)

the basic problem is that 1 bottle of wine is not enough, because I'm physically a big guy (6ft 4in, 200 lbs) but 2 bottles is over the line but only a fool would put an opened bottle back into the fridge. And the wine whe5re I am happens to be about the best in te world.

Sio that's just a problem. Like right now for instance...

the otgher problem being that I just can't type woth a ddamn

TBH, this thread is just pitiful, it really shows you just how big of losers most people on ATOT really are (not like there was ever any doubt). I mean just the level of ignorance concerning alcohol (people saying they don't drink to avoid herpes and AIDS, wtf?) is sad. I mean look, if you want to stay in your room and study or play computer games all night then thats fine, but you really are missing out on ALOT if you go threw college and avoid all the parties. College is supposed to be the best time of your life, it is a time when you CAN do silly things and its OK. People go to parties and drink for tons of reasons. First off its the best way to meet girls (an NO, its not just sluts at college parties (though if thats what you want they are there too), all the respectable girls are there too and manage to STAY respectable even when drinking). The point of college is NOT jsut to get a good GPA, you are supposed to learn social skills, learn how to take care of yourself, build up a network of acquaintances for the rest of your life. These things are done at parties. Now SURE, many people go to far with alcohol, but the MAJORITY of people who drink do so in moderation and have better (more fun) lives because of it. I'm not claiming to be some cool kid here or anything, I'm definitely not, but if you cannot at least UNDERSTAND why people want to go to parties and drink in college then i feel sorry for you. Almost all the happiest moments while I have been at college were when I had some level of alcohol in my body, and yet I am not addicted, I do NOT have herpes, I have a good GPA etc. The question really is whether you want to spend your free time by yourself watching TV or on a computer, or with other people (including *OMG* GIRLS). Personally I would choose the latter.

Great post. Congrats on your great experiences with alcohol. I know it can be great and also know I've never really gotten there with alcohol. Now, with some other drugs... yeah!! OK, I'm quite curious about this website you refer to but didn't link or spell out. If you aren't comfortable posting in the forum, could you PM me the link? Thanks.

I absolutely agree with your political views.

Now concerning alcohol, I'm sure you would agree that not everyone is equipped to get out of it what you got/get out of it. We all know that it gets abused a whole lot. Well, most any potentially great drug can be abused. Anyway, yeah you are right that drugs can be great and they are great to explore, but you have to be careful not to really mess yourself up.

I have never met anyone of decent intelligence who drinks regularly while in college. It seems almost everyday that this view is proven right.
