I've seen it. It IS pretty epic, especially if you view it through the lens of the time it was originally released in. I feel like music and sound design are something like 70% of the appeal though.

What amazes me is they expect the movie to make 2 BILLION dollars. So basically if it doesn't make more money than Titanic it is a flop.

As long as this movie gets good word of mouth (i.e. not the Fant4stic Four treatment), I think it will easily cross 1 billion.

I thought the original Star Wars movie was a pretty good solid film and did justice to "The Hidden Fortress", and that George Lucas was a decent fellow for his supporting of Kurusawa when Kurusawa was having problems financing his films. Lucas borrowed ideas and content from Kurusawa, Kurusawa borrowed money and influence from Lucas.

Anyhow, while I would not give too much critical acclaim to Star Wars franchise, the original Star Wars trilogy is a great fun trilogy, and I would consider it "Must see" at least to feel like you belong to the culture of the USA which has ohh so many pop culture references all over the place

I know when the first one came out I was so messed up that I didn't remember most of it. So I went again but history repeated itself. I think I have seen the whole thing in bits and pieces over the years.

I was 12 when ANH came out and thats the perfect aged to have seen it. When ESB came out I was 15 and didnt see it until a year later (funny how puberty take over priorities) And when ROTJ came out I was 18 and didnt really dig it but hey, it was star wars! So, when video formats like Beta and VHS released these I was all over em. Every time they remastered ore re-released these I would buy em. I have em on batamax, vhs, laserdisc and DVD. I did not get the BR as I had enough crappy remasters and edits. IMO, the last laserdisc release, pre-cgi additions, of the original 3 are by far the best versions to own. I love star wars, but not like I loved it when I was 12 in 1977. I am getting sorta giddy with this new one like I was back in 1977. I hope it lives up to MY expectations. BTW, I will be seeing it in 2d, not imax, and not in 3d.

Even went back the next day and saw it again, I drug my Grandfather to it.

Yes I was 9 then and my dad took me to the Senator Theatre to watch it. Saw the next two as well as a kid but like BoomerD I had no interest in it when the next 3 came out.
