I use 2x24" at home and 3x22" at work. They're spending $800 to downgrade me to 2x24" at work next week. My protests have been ignored.

I don't use one at home. I got a nice 21" short depth CRT last year and ran with it briefly alongside my 20" WS LCD, but I didn't find the need for two unless I was doing programming and even then it was pretty simple so not really needed. That and CRTs, even ones in good condition, are much less bright and have much less clear text than LCDs.

Then I started a new job with 2x19" LCDs and now at home I find myself trying to drag windows off the screen. So I'm thinking about getting another or a 24" at home.

It's not really dual screen but sorta?

had 19" samsungs but couldn't stand the bezel between the two monitors...have a 37" Westy 1080p for my main monitor now...definitely sweeter than two lcd's...

Only if you've got something to the side.

Umm yeah I've seen that shot before and of other crazy setups like it. If I had the money I would rather invest it in a better video card to play games at a better frame rate on my 30"er. Adding more screens would just add that much more stress on the video card. What kind of crazy card setup do you need to run something like that anyway?

For gaming you can turn the other screens off and just use the main screen. I don't game though so I don't need an extremely powerful video card. I use it for web development and database stuff. When I'm really working there are windows scattered across all 3 monitors. I just have a 7800GTX pushing the main and one side and a 6800GT pushing the other. Besides the monitors and the one video card upgrade, I haven't put a penny into my computer in 3 years. I'll upgrade my video cards and everything else when Core i7 comes gets to a reasonable price.

This. Why fuck around with two little monitors when you can have it all on one screen without a nasty black strip down the middle? I love my 26" monitor. I will be upgrading to a 30" with my next build though, that's for sure.

I'd use dual monitors, but my current desk wouldn't accommodate that. I currently have a 20 in widescreen, with room for perhaps a 24 inch... nothing more. Maybe I need a new desk.

24" wide screen has more than enough real estate...tabbed browsing also helps...can open up an Excel sheet, Firefox, plus all the stuff running in the tray. Now my workstation (at work) has a triple display but that's just to accommodate a very large amount of information and tools.

What's the res and pitch on a 30"? One of the main reasons I like the 26s is that the pitch is way more comfortable, and the same 1920x1200 that makes my eyeballs bleed on a 24" is perfect on a larger 26". I didn't even consider a 27 because the res is higher.

It is much more convenient to have large/full-screen applications on different monitors than a lot of little windows on a single larger monitor. There is no comparison.

agree 100%. At work i traded my two 20" monitors for a single 24" monitor (more desk space) and hated it. Its much nicer being able to have two monitors running apps, than having to continuously alt+tab every few mins...

I almost bought another 24" 2407wfp to go with the one I have but then I discovered compiz fusion on Ubuntu. Since I have 4 desktops, there is absolutely no need to get another monitor. I run a winxp VM on one desktop screen and I switch between Linux and Windows easily.

The whole point of multiple monitors is being able to see everything at once. with compiz fusion you still have to keep switching, which is just alt-tabbing but a bit more nifty

Dual at work (the work laptop's video card won't drive the laptop screen + 2 monitors, unfortunately, so I can't do triple), but just a single at home. Don't really need the extra virtual desktop space for the home computer, and I do use the extra real-life desktop space.

True. But for my purposes, the keystrokes work fine. It might be beneficial for other folks to have watch 2 different screens at once. I work on code so using the keystrokes is okay. I guess if I were to do some photoshop or similar type of work, having 2 screens would be a must.
