lol my backup card is an 8600gt. that is not even worth fooling with the trouble of installing. the 780 card prices have already took a poop so not much I can do now until I get my 970. the 780 is going to be the first card I actually lose a huge chunk of money on and I got the best deal ever offered so I know others are really taking a hit.
I generally think yours and tviceman's upgade paths have been excellent over the years. I think GTX460/560/560Ti --> GTX570/660Ti/670 --> GTX780. Those were huge increases in performance/watt and performance. I am really scratching my head at your guys decision to lose so much money on a 780 to go 970/980. Even the 980 is only
30% faster on average at 2560x1600 against a stock 780 and I know neither of you ran a 780 at stock.
Obviously it's fun to play with new hardware but I think you both could have waited another 12 months as 780 @ 1.1-1.2Ghz+ is still a fast card and is hardly
that much slower than an overclocked 970/980.
And Watch Dogs is just an average game that runs like poop even with 4GB of VRAM. At least you guys will be ready for Witcher 3 and GTA V which unlike Watch Dogs, are hopefully worth upgrading for.
P.S. My backup card is a
Zotac GT620, which is pretty much worthless for gaming. In 3-4 years I think I'll need to splurge on some used 970 for $100 as a backup.
I sold my 780 for $345 including shipping on ebay over the weekend. F*cking eBay and PayPal took close to $50. EBay lumps your shipping costs into their fee calculations, so be warned. Shipping cost me an actual $22, including insurance and signature confirm, so when it was all said and done I netted $275 on a $345 transaction.
Believe it or not but that's an excellent resale you got. Goes to show how uninformed the average PC gaming buyer is. EVGA Classified 780 brand new with BL: P was going for
$340, while Asus DCUII brand new is
$310 with BL: P, MSI Gaming 780 is
$320 and the March 25, 2014 released $599 Asus 780 Poseidon is now
$330 just 6 months later. Shocking how much some 780 users got burned.
The resale value on 780Ti should tank as new ones are going for
$430-
450!
