Amnesia: The Dark Descent is on sale at gamersgate for 75% off.

I was wondering if anyone here played it and if its worth buying? Amnesia has a metacritic score of 85, but I would like a little more information.

I still haven't beaten it, but, I love it. I need to start moving on it again.

If you get into games, as in you let your self get drawn into them, and you like being scared, then you'll like it.

The game does a really good job of making you feel vulnerable and frightened, I think the story is interesting as well.

Turn out the lights, put on headphones, and prepare to be scared quite a lot - to the point of where you'll need to get up and take a few sanity breaks.

This guy speaks the truth. There were times I had to stop playing cause I was scared shitless. It's kind of embarrassing to say that but it is true.

He's joking. The OP has posted numerous times about his displeasure with Valve for not patching well known bugs with L4D1/2 that have existed since release, yet they update and bug fix TF2 all the time.

Think I'll pick up the game. I figured it would be on sale somewhere this week given that Halloween is coming up.

Might want to wait and see what Steam puts it up for if they have a Halloween sale since GG is a week long sale.

Fun game btw. I love going on OnLive and watching people play it and freaking themselves out. BTW there's a demo no Steam or you can try it free for an hour on OnLive. I've been doing that for games that I want to try instead of having to dl any files.

It's good. The puzzles are at the right difficulty, decent story and voice acting, creepy atmosphere.

Well worth playing.

It's survival horror/adventure without any weapons. You have to find clues and solve puzzles while avoiding monsters. Since there are no weapons, you can only run and hide; however, being in the dark decreases your sanity and you start hallucinating allowing monsters to find you more easily.

OP, buy it. It's currently considered the scariest game ever made, according to most of the people who've played it (including me). I remember buying it last year. It took me from September to December of 2010 to beat it, because I could only play it in ~20 minute increments. It psychologically tears you apart but it's an experience like no other.

Also, you're supporting an awesome indie developer. Frictional Games are masterful at making horror games. If you like Amnesia, check out their slightly older Penumbra series, which in some ways is even scarier than Amnesia.

And no, you're not some soldier or space marine or elite cop blasting your way through monsters.... no, not at all. It's something entirely different.

Edit: Just looked at the site. And goddamn, for $5, it's a steal.

I don't think the hair on the back of my neck ever went down for a second while I was playing it. Graphics aren't that great but its not needed cause you're almost always in the dark. I haven't finished it yet but with halloween coming up I'm going to try and get back into it.

Watch this video in full screen mode - with the lights out, with headphones on. It's not as immersive as playing the game - but it gives you an idea of what to expect.

The cool thing about this game - the areas get freakishly scarier the farther you play the game.

The only part of the game that disappointed me was the end - it felt tacked on when compared to the rest of the game.

Honestly - this is one of the few games which is well worth more than $4.99 sale price.

No question about it.. and yup 20 minutes seem to be average time before we lose our sanity. I got so scared that.. I started playing this game during afternoons.. big mistake. Played for like 10 mins and stopped. It is scary and addictive.. you just want to get the hell out that creepy castle.

But there is absolutely no replay value though.

The game is creepy as hell. I never had to stop playing it, like some people, but its in my top 10 games of all time personally. It is a presentational and game play achievement in my book. They fine tuned the formula from the penumbra series and for the most part made an amazing game. It isn't perfect, but its well worth it.
