How badly do they throttle you?

I don't know I had Verizon not AT&T, but I know they do throttle you.

I still have the unlimited plan on AT&T, but that's mostly because no matter how I plot out a switch to a tiered plan or Mobile Share, it'd cost me more money. I've never crossed the 5gb mark, but I average 3.5-4gb/month with my current phone. If I switched to a 5gb tiered plan, it'd run me $120 more per year (after my employee discount) for what is essentially the same service but with officially "blessed" tethering.

Switching to a mobile share plan vs. my FamilyTalk plan would run me $360 more per year due to the way the discounts are done (only the data portion is discounted on Mobile Share plans). Although I'd gain the ability to use smartphones on my kids' lines, I completely lose the cheap $9.99 phone-only option I have on my current plan. I don't necessarily want (and definitely don't need) those sub-lines to have smartphones, data, etc. Having even basic phones be $30/device (and that only at the higher data tiers) makes Mobile Share a no-go for me.

I have unlimited minutes, text, data and insurance from Verizon. All paid by my employer.

Currently using Razr M and tether with FoxFi. Works perfectly and the phone has great battery life.

I had my own 400 min, unlimited data line before but I sold it for $250 last year.

Ive done 2 upgrades each for me & my wife and was able to keep my unlimited data on att. Im about to upgrade again. I only avg about 2-3 gbs but sometimes I'll go as high as 4-5gb. I notice I get throttled at about the 3gb range and speeds are practically unbearable. Like 100 kbps according to speedtest.

I havent done the math or really looked into the newer data share plans because my wife and I have unlimited data but my step son doesnt and he just got his 1st smartphone so we'll have to look at his usage before we change anything.

My tmobile gets throttled from 4g to relatively fast 3g. Not a big deal, especially for email and calendar updates.

But you don't have true unlimited T-Mobile right? I have the $70 unlimited and it's true unlimited, have gone near 10GB to test it and no throttling.

I have three lines on VzW all with unlimited and all off contract. My brother uses about on 2-3gb a month, me 500mb, my mom 100mb.

I can personally verify that TMO's full unlimited, 70/month plan, does not throttle you. I've pulled over 10GBs once or twice.

Mine is unlimited BUT throttled at 5 gigs. 30 dollars a month pre-pay.

With AT&T's unlimited its 3GB for a HSPA device and 5GB for an LTE device. When I upgraded to my S4 they bumped me to the 5GB limit.

I have my Verizon unlimited that I'm trying to sell off. My T-Mobile line hit 75gbs this month (I wanted to test if it would throttle and its still full speed)

I think this is a verizon thing. I just went from iphone 4S to LG G2 and kept my unlimited.

It's definitely a Verizon thing. Verizon only lets you keep it if you pay full price for a new phone, or buy used. If you accept the 2-year contract price, they'll make you choose a new "limited" data plan.

On the plus side with Verizon, they don't throttle their LTE network at all, so it is "truly" unlimited. Unlimited users are also allowed truly unlimited wifi tethering by adding the $30 hotspot plan. I used nearly 60 GB last month through the wifi hotspot. It's very convenient. (And as a single person with a wifi hotspot, I don't need home broadband, so I'm saving a little money there.)

Last I heard, AT&T still slows down your "unlimited" service past a certain ambiguous point if you're a "top 5%" data user.

Each carrier has it's own way of "discouraging" unlimited users. Verizon eliminates the option to upgrade at a subsidized price, and AT&T hits the brakes on high-GB users.

Noob here but how do u know? I currently have an sg2 skyrocket. I can get lte when im in the city but we dont have lte where I live.

Went to the store and asked when I bought me S4. Then I called and confirmed afterwards with customer support to make sure they weren't lying to me in the store.

Not as much as they make from people who have to pay exorbitant rates to use over 2GB.

I figure once the required infrastructure is built and paid for, it doesn't cost them much more to transfer 20 GB than 2. So why the highway robbery style data fees?

T-Mobile doesn't charge any exorbitant rates for using more than your data cap.
T-Mobile unlimited data is truly unlimited, no throttling involved.

Unlimited on Verizon. Still rocking my GNex, but it's long in the tooth. I'm hoping to upgrade another line and swap the phone to me once the Note 3 is released and keep my unlimited.

I probably use between 5-10gb/mo. Netflix/Pandora/Podcasts/Dropbox... It adds up quick. They're going to need to up those caps once people start to really use their phones.

I haven't had a need to tether much. If I did, my usage will be way up.

Unlimited on Verizon bought a DNA a few months ago off contract.

Its incredibly useful. The new 2 gig plan costs the same as old unlimited so there is literally no reason to switch regardless of how much data I use. Some months I use 1gb. others I use 20. Would NEVER switch willfully.

The new plans are a joke, 2GB is a joke. Verizon called me a few days ago to 'make sure I have the right plan for me'. lol like I don't know exactly what I'm doing... he says why don't you upgrade your old DNA to a new droid? Gimme a break...

Sprint unlimited is pretty impressively unlimited. 100-250 GB/month doesn't seem to be a problem.

I keep seeing the 3 or 5 GB limits on ATT unlimited plans in this thread, which I still have, but they throttle me at 2 GBs. I've only got close once, when I was out of town, and as soon as I hit 2 GBs ATT started sending me text messages warning me that I had used too much data and that if it happened again they would throttle me back to Edge speeds. What really ticked me off is that every, single, time for the rest of that billing cycle (3 or 4 days) that my phone accessed mobile data I'd get a new text telling me the same thing, even if all it did was check email or update a widget. I guess they think we're too stupid to remember that stern warning they just sent. I've heard that the "unlimited" limits are dependent on how much data people in your geographical location use.

I wish I was in an area that got good T-Mobile service, cause I think I'd really like them.
