I generally don't do well with diets but I know I need to change my eating habits. For the most part I'm pretty good at exercising, I'm fairly active although I would like to increase my time with weight training.

But anyway getting back to the South Beach diet. I bought the book this weekend and from what I've read it seems very sensible and a good way of life eating plan.

Has anyone here had good results with it? Are you having a difficult time staying with it? How much weight did you lose? (what did you lose during Phase 1 or 2)

It's funny, my co-worker is on it.

When we did take out from Cheesburger Cheesburger! he order the pounder without buns. That's a lot of meat.

To be honest, you should discipline yourself to push away the last few bites on your plate and cut you junk food intake, such as fast food, sodas, candy. Eat more fruit and vegetables and continue your exercise and that will work better. The atkins and southbeach diet have been known to dramatically increase blood pressure.

To answer your question, i have not done it, but my girlfriend has tried it. She says you start to hate eating and you dread that part of the day. Good luck.

I just finished phase 1 in the diet, and lost about 10 pounds in two weeks... I agree that it's about the most sensible diet I've researched because it doesn't rely on "miracles" of any sort. It's about eating the right stuff, and that's basically it. You eat until you are full, and most food type items are allowed in one sort or another.

As for teh person who is eating the fast food burgers with no meat, that is not really allowed on the diet. You should really only eat lean meats, and if you are going to be eating burgers, you should aim for 90% or higher. The crap you get from restaurants is probably 50% beef, and 50% fat.

Check out these forums for experiences/recipes/instructions from other folks on the diet...

That diet was actually rated very well according to those high up physicians in the country! I saw a news series on diets a while back and that one was among the best....if you have to diet. It is ideal for it to eventually become a lifestyle change whereas the other diets do not lead to that.

Where did you read that southbeach increases blood pressure? I would be interested to see that, because the book is written by an actual cardialogist with the intentions of getting your blood pressure and cholesterol levels under control....

if your looking for a quick fix and using some fad diet.. don't expect to keep the weight off

if you want to loose weight and keep it off, its a lifestyle change, not just some stuff out of a cookbook

that said... ive never been a fan of the low carb diet since it started... i sucessfully lost and kept off 40lbs by eating low fat, low calorie food and exercising to burn off more calories then i consumed per day (or tried to at least) - all the while i was eating turkey burgers and pasta...

MikePanic nailed it with making it a lifestyle change. Here are two good sights about two people who did just that---lifestyle change coupled with dedication to it.

Interesting to say the least.

This diet is basically all the things you talked about with a few more restrictions. Also this diet was conceived by a cardiologist for the purpose of reducing heart disease so I'm pretty sure any concerns about increased blood pressure is likely a rumour.

Well like I said before I'm looking for a better plan, not really a short term diet. It's kind of interesting on the subject of carbs, carbs are'nt really bad but its the processed carbs that do a lot a damage. When carbs are stripped of their dietary fiber thats what leads to health issues. Also fat is not bad either, its just knowing what type of fats to eat. Essentially the body NEEDS certain type of fats so it could be potentially harmful to avoid all fats.

In my 4th week now. Went from 232 Lb (6'-4") to 214 in first two weeks. Sunday at the golf course I weighed 209 on a different scale. I like the selection of available items & didn't find it hard to follow. This is my 1st time trying to lose weight since I hurt my back 10 yrs ago. Prior to that I ran & weighed 190 -195. Good luck.

Wow those are some amazing results, are you working out as well or is the weight loss just from diet changes?

Phrase one, but he isn't too strict on it, the burger from that place is quite lean. and he definately doesn't eat any bread, pasta or rice. It's really hard to order out when I'm working overtime with him.

Had he eaten the bun it would have been a lot of meat and a lot of carbs...

I was wrong, he only ate half, and he ate the other half for breakfast the next day. I looked at him funny when he pull that out of the microwave in the morning when I was expecting coffee.

south beach will not keep off the weight. i just started a diet too, its called take a jog every day and eat less, i've lost 10 pounds in a month, i'm not very overweight though, wanna lose maybe 15 more pounds, i'm 6'2 and weigh 210. i really just recommend steady slow weight loss instead of dramatic weight loss because your body adjusts better to a gradual reduction in calories.
