I'm hoping to sell some somewhat obscure high-end speakers. I've been told that Audiogon is a good place to sell these - does anyone have any thoughts on it?
I've got some Cliffhanger Audio Bulldogs. There's a scratch on the side, but it's not very big and the cabinetmaker down the block says he could make it good as new for a pittance.
How much do you think I should ask? They're pretty darn nice speakers - good drivers, steel-braced cabinet, and for some inexplicable reason, sliver internal wiring.
I've used Audiogon a few times both as a seller and a buyer and I check it constantly. Any day now I'll have a new listing going up as well.
alk says no price checks...but I don't think it'd be too much to give you a percentage. Depending on how old the speakers are, I wouldn't expect to get more than 60-65% of original MSRP and that's probably a little on the high side. These are not well known speakers so I would also put a lot of time into a good post with good pictures. Also consider shipping arrangements.
Have you seen any pop up and sell on audiogon/ebay?
Generally, the more popular the item or strength of brand, the higher the resale value.
Obscure brands and very high MSRP items will usually go on a huge discount on Audiogon though. I've seen stuff go for like 35% MSRP which were prestine.
FWIW, I'm going to be listing a turntable on eBay and my speakers on audiogon. I just compared the activity for each and I think eBay will be better for some components.
