I have PT on Tuesdays at 6:00AM. Just wondering if anyone else gets up early to workout. It's kinda nice running in the morning when the cars are not out and neither are people.

Actually I get up earlier (4:30). My workout consists of:
trying to open my eyes one at a time, then together
pushing myself out of bed and then
picking myself up off the floor
dressing minimally
one foot, then another, then the first one again - walking

and finally the dreaded

stairmonster

after which I reward myself with coffee and then head off for work.

Cute description. "Dreaded Stairmonster." Heheh.

I get up at 0530 Mon-Fri. But I don't workout. I should, but I don't. No time. No energy. No money. I work two jobs, that's why I have no time, no energy.

I work out every day, after work. That way at least I know I won't skip it, like most of my friends who work out in the mornings do.

I'm in the gym or pool by 0510. Home by 0700 to get ready for work. Of course I go to bed at 2200, to insure I get about 7 hrs sleep. I've been on this routine for about a year, so I guess it's a keeper. My day doesn't feel so short this way. I tried working out in the evening, but then I'd get to eat dinner around 2100, which was way too late. This way is much more balanced for me and the lifestyle I lead.

I've done it in the past consistently. I even did it last friday for a run. It's VERY tough to do constantly and requires a combination of being well rested and having a lot of will power for it. I generally leave it until the night now.

I get up to work out a 4:40..... for a long time, the only people at the gym that early were me, and the one of the trainers that opens up the gym. I'm glad that I did start going that early, because it led to really cool experience at the gym, and a very happy marriage.

I tried that - didn't work too well. Other than for cardio purposes, it's rather pointless to wake up that early in the morning to workout because a) you're brain isn't functioning as well as it will be later on in the day and b) your carb supply is empty - yea sure you can eat breakfast but it's a lot more beneficial to workout later on in the day with a couple meals under your belt and your carb supply high and c) it's better to workout when your muscles are warm - and your body is at it's warmest around mid-afternoon.

I run and and do most of my work out when I come home from work. No time in the mornings although I do a few sets of situps and pushups.

that very much depends on what your tryig to do..... now, the reason I think that isnt the best adviec for most people is:

Most people (maybe not most but ALOT) at the gym are there to lose weight while building muscle. If you have just eaten , or eaten twice, your body will draw on the protein and carbs in the food, instead of the carb store in fat. If your aimnig to lsoe weight, from what ive read, the best solution is to work out on an empty stomache (but make sure your hyudrated) and make sure you get a high prtoein low carb meal or supplement in soon after the work out... plus, it has the added benefit or revving your metabolism for the rest of your active day.

I didn't mean workout right after a meal - just not on an empty stomach. You shouldn't work out on an empty stomach because anaerobic excercise draws off carbs - when your carb supply is empty it breaks down protein and uses that as energy; for aerobic excercise, that draws off carbs too; however, once your carb supply is depleted it turns stored fat and uses that as energy. And letting yourself go hungry is counterproductive to your metabolism - that's why people recommend you eat 6-8 times a day instead of 3 times - it boosts your metabolism.

yes, letting yuorself go hungry IS counterproductive... but from what ive read recently, it is good workout on an empty stomach in the morning (not disrupt your meal plan to work out on an empty stomache)

I'm no expert, but thats what Bill Phillips says in the book, and my Doctor(M.D.) gave me the book and follows the plan himself. so im going to go ahead and trust that duo
