Ore Monogatari!! - So, I originally passed on this show, because it was listed as shoujo, and I generally don't like shoujo anime. However, this isn't your average shoujo anime. No, no, my friend, because it isn't many bishies, one girl, one choice~! The story focuses on this tall, brutish guy who has never had much luck with women. He's not a delinquent or anything like that... the women just all happen to fall for his bishounen friend... every time. He runs into this girl with ridiculously huge... eyes, and he instantly falls for her. Unfortunately, he assumes that -- like all the times before -- she has fallen for his friend. Overall, I think it's a fun watch with some amusing characters.

Initial Verdict: Will watch.

I use PLEX quite a bit for anime, but it can be quite bothersome at times. My HTPCs are full-fledged machines (e.g. no transcoding, burning in, etc.), and I've had straight-to-desktop crashes on PLEX caused by subtitles. In fact, Nisekoi: episode 1 had a crash around 4 minutes in. I had to watch past the scene on my phone, and then go back to my TV.

Using the chrome app? Weird

So, I'm enjoying Shokugeki no Soma a bit more. I figured that it would get a bit more fun when it got into the school, and it hasn't really disappointed. It also hasn't been nearly as ridiculous with the weird ecchi food porn stuff. Although, the ridiculous nature of it just makes me laugh, so it's not that big of a deal.

Using the chrome app? Weird

You mean the Chromecast app? Nah, I use full-fledged Windows-based HTPCs. I've seen this issue before too. It was on Underwater's episode 13 of Kill la Kill (some sort of newspaper headline subtitle). It would crash Plex and also cause Media Player Classic - Home Cinema to freeze. I just switched to Commie's sub for that episode. :\

I like the show so far but wished they didn't do the steel beam bit. It broke physical laws.

Yeah, it was a bit silly. I figured that he was just going to get her out of the way.

not chromecast though it also does it. It's html5 plex client. never cared for the htpc client.

Been watching an odd assortment of anime lately. In the past month or so I have watched Sword art online Season 1 and 2. Log horizon Season 1 and 2. Space dandy season 1, Attack on titan season 1, and Magi Season 1 and 2.

When's the next Attack on Titan season out? Those giants are freaking creepy

Looks like they're doing a foreign live-action version:

just watched through chuunibyou.

as expected, it was bland and generic with the only worthwhile character being a side character. (the girl's older sister.)

watching
Owari no seraph
humans decimated by virus, fighting vampire society. good storytelling, good animation, decent plot, characters dont seem overly deep, only con is that it may overtake the manga
shokugeki no soma
cooking battle set in school, not a new genre but adding the ecchi keeps it from getting too stale, fun but not particularly amazing
dungeon ni
world as a fantasy rpg with gods living among humans. Characters are all cute and moe but nothing very deep or anywhere to go with the larger plot. Ok to watch, but you wont remember much about it a year from now. Decent art/animation, no real dramatic highpoints. semi typical harem format.
pan(tchi)tsu-line
oddball series of this season, androids ghosts superheroes timetravel all wrapped in a gag format. Mysterybox storytelling could backfire if the big picture/secret doesnt pay off, but for now the episodes keep you wanting more. Nice art, strong efx animation, some amazing meta jokes in the first 2 ep. [title is a play on 'punch' and 'pantchi'(panty) and panchira being being homophones homonyms in japanese]
kekkai sensen
probably my favorite of the season, new york hit by dimensional cataclysm and now home to aliens and monsters. Humans using blood based weapons/powers to protect the remaining humans from the vampires. Strong art/animation, good storytelling, light humor/gag with nice switches to drama. Struggles with giving enough time to introduce all the characters. A little over reliant on voice over narration for some of the exposition.
sidonia no kishi2
season 2 moving pretty fast and there are pacing issues. Still camping in the uncanny valley when it comes to the character animation, very off putting. Series has problems laying out where it is going, the manga is much better about introducing plot points and foreshadowing.

skipping
gunslinger stratos
based on game from urobuchi concept, parallel worlds competing for survival. Animation is low budget and missing tons of inbetweening. Worldbuilding is poor and storytelling is disjointed and random.
plastic memories
near future world with androids as commodity. Expiration date on androids requires public service employees to recover/retire them. Melodrama format with some obvious implications from ep1. Not really something I can make time for this season, but if you want a tearjerker it may pay off.
arslan senki
semi historical adaptation set in ersatz persian empire. Based on manga from mangaka who did full metal alchemist. A bit slow and pondering, nothing inspiring or impressive but if you want something on the large epic side this may be the only new thing this season.
Triage X
guns and boobs, vigilante group killing criminals. generally makes no sense, fan service with no real through line for the characters. uninspired animation, no storytelling or drama.

You really only need to watch a few episodes to get the idea of the series, but the ending is just one big HOLY SHIT moment.

Saw the ending of Aldnoah Zero.
I'm pretty sure we thought most of the main cast would die but no, not a single character or support character died and most importantly not even SLAINE!? WTF is this? Pokemon? Slaine gets a 48 hour community service or life in prison? Sorry I give this series a 3.5/10. Don't really care anyways since I hate mecha. So many bad stuff to say, I don't even know where to start.
Brilliant ending 10/10! *roll eyes*

Ever notice how it's always the adults that always muck everything up while it's always the kids and students that end up saving everything?

In Japan it must suck to get old.

So, I've finally had a good chance to watch the majority of the new anime this season. Here are my thoughts, and I'll try to mention how much I've seen since we're about 5-6 episodes in for each series.

Akagami no Shirayuki - This is meant to be more of a reimagining of Snow White where Shirayuki (shirayuki = white snow) is a fair maiden with rather recognizable red hair (akagami = red hair). I've only watched the first episode of this one, but while it was definitely a bit shoujo, it was not too bad overall. It had some interesting characters apart from Shirayuki. I've been meaning to watch a bit more; it'll be interesting to see if this can go anywhere as the first problem gets resolved rather quickly.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu - This is a fun gender-bender series where a tomboy with a strong sense for justice gets pulled into the world of "survival games", which is really just paintball with BB guns. As you'll see from some other series in this list, I tend to enjoy series where a character gets thrown into strange environments, as it usually ends up with some awkward yet comedic situations, and Aoharu x Kikanjuu doesn't disappoint. Although, I do wonder how much they're going to rely on Tachibana trying to hide her gender. I've seen the first two episodes of this series.

Chaos Dragon - Honestly, I didn't get pulled into this series too much with just the first episode. The first episode just seemed a bit chaotic with its telling of the story. I think it'll be cleared up a bit later on. The series is about this land that was caught up between two warring states that have occupied different parts of the nation. Apparently, once the nation was invaded, the red dragon, which was the symbol of the nation, was released and has been terrorizing the land. The series follows the son of the land's disposed king.

Charlotte - I've seen the first six episodes of this series. It's not one that I expected to like, and I was a bit worried that the series would waffle a bit in an episodic format. Then... episode six happened. D: The series centers around people with abilities where these abilities all have their own sort of downsides. For example, the main character can control people for five seconds, but his body just collapses. Another kid has teleportation, which is really just really, really fast running with a complete inability to stop. One of the better aspects of this series are some of the side characters -- especially the main character's little sister who's just adorable.

Classroom * Crisis - This is a series that I've been wanting to see a few more before I really pass judgment. The series centers around a class of geniuses who work on technologies and such. It's like a fancy technical vocational school. They've got a new student coming in, but it turns out the student has been kidnapped. What will the class do? The first episode takes a bit of a fun turn.

Dragon Ball Super - I've seen the first two episodes of this, and if you enjoy the long-running shounen series, you'll need a bit more. The problem is that this series tries to fit in Battle of the Gods to make it canon... except I thought the movie already was canon, and was the first DBZ movie to be considered so. There were 13 previous Dragonball movies that don't really count. The show also mixes in a bit of side-story, which I don't think is a great idea for anything more than a little bit to say where everyone is. All in all, this series could be fun depending on where it goes.

Gekkou Gurashi! - I've only seen the first episode of this series, and I'm not too sure if I'll be continuing with this one. The premise is kind of interesting as it's a zombie series about these girls in a School Living club that managed to avoid being caught up in a zombie apocalypse. The series seemed somewhat strange at first, but
the ending revealed the the main character is traumatized and she doesn't see the real world for what it is... broken down and overrun with zombies.
I'd like to give it another shot to see if it's good.

Gangsta. - I've only seen the first episode of this one, but it's definitely a strange series. They introduce these people referred to as "dogtags", but they haven't explained what they are. The series follows two people that consider themselves "handymans" that do whatever job you need, and they do some work for the police when needed. It's a seinen series, so it gets a little darker.

Gate: Jietai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri - This is another one of those strange situation series. In this one, a gate opens up in the middle of Tokyo and a bunch of weird invaders start pouring out including ogres and cavalry. As you'd expect, medieval units don't exactly stand up too well against modern weaponry, and Japan ends up taking over the gate. The series follows a guy who professes that he works (as a soldier in Japan's SDF) just to support his hobbies as an otaku. Well, he ends up getting sent through the gate to explore this strange world. It has got some rather strange characters, and I'm curious where it might end up going. I've seen the first six episodes so far.

God Eater - I've only seen the first episode for this one as I'm not sure where it's going to go. It might remind you of Shingeki no Kyojin where humanity has been driven behind walls by strange creatures. In this world, these creatures have to be defeated by weapons called God Arcs. The series follows around the usual shounen hot-head that just has to get some retribution. I've been considering watching more of this, but I haven't made up my mind yet. It seems a bit too stereotypical.

Himouto! Umaru-chan - I didn't really expect to like this one, but it's strangely fun. The series follows Umaru, who is considered the most gorgeous girl at school. She's not only known for her beauty, but she's also smart and athletic. However, Umaru is also a major otaku and she happens to hide that from everyone else. Whenever she's in her "otaku mode", she shrinks down into this chibi form and is generally a nuisance to her older brother that she lives with. The series is fun with some of its strange side characters. I've seen the first five episodes of this one.

Whew... I'll have to talk about the others later. Those include...

Jitsu wa Watashi wa
Joukamachi no Dandelion
Kangoku Gakuen
Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou
Rokka no Yuusha
Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai
Ushio to Tora
Working!!!

I'm also planning on watching the following at some point...

Pretty sure it was probably brought up already but if you haven't seen Attack on Titan, it is really addictive. Great character development, mindf*ck storyline, classic Japanese humor, drama and politics. Like Shia says.

What character development? I've read up until chapter 48 in the manga, which is past the show, and the main character (Eren) has seen just about no development at all. The only "development" has been revealing the true motivations of side-characters. The story will sometimes give you a little morsel of information to keep you interested in finding out more of what's actually going on, but very little overarching plot development occurs. Keep in mind that the manga is a monthly serial, so when very little happens in a chapter, it's rather annoying. I think I'm about 12 chapters behind at this point, and I have little desire to catch up.
