Anyone here what happened to the trident XP4...?

Howdy, was wonderin' if you peps' ever here any news on the Trident XP4? Basically when it comes out...

And more importantly is it worth waiting for or should I buy a radeon 9500pro?

I'd definitely recommend going with the 9500Pro over waiting for Trident's XP4.
I really don't expect the XP4 to perform substantially better then the 9000Pro board, let alone the 9500Pro.
Keep in mind even the fastest Trident XP in the XP4 has an MSRP of only $99.
I'd be expecting Ti4200 performance at best, and likely a bit off that.
Most of Trident's claims fall roughly in-line with Ti4200 performance levels.

The 9500Pro will almost assuredly be faster and give you full DX9 hardware support, which the XP4 lacks.

This is only referring strictly to 3D performance... when we consider areas like DVD and TV-Out, the hallmark of ATi's reputation then I find it increasingly clear the 9500Pro is a much much better option.

But then, this is to be expected. The XP4 is intended to compete against the fastest of the R9000/GF4 MX lines, rsopectively that would be the R9000Pro and GF4 MX460.

back in the summer (august i believe) trident said they would have samples ready in september and ship in october....seeing how its now november, i personally think they may be waiting for nv30 to come out. they gave some pretty interesting numbers...80% of ti4600 and 70% of 9700 which doesnt make any sense at all, but then you figure its only gonna retail for $100. i think i gonna wait for price drops after nv30 hits or pick up a ti4200

LOL, I never understand why people think a company would not sell something on purpose.

It's not like they have a million chips in inventory and are like "nah, not yet". The things either 1) don't work 2) have low yields or 3) software isn't ready

The only time a company might "hold back" a chip is if they have too much inventory of an older part which would compete with the new part.

I'm also thinking of upgrading my video card and decided to wait for comdex, see if trident releases anythingthere
