Anyone here work for Schlumberger?

If so will you be working on the rigs, and/or setting up antennas?

im with SLB on the petrotechnical side (work in office). recruited some FEs recently.

FE will work long hours (on call), out onsite in potentially bad weather. you'll get your hands dirty.

some people love that environment, many dont and quit early - turnover is high. put in a few years, however, and youre golden.

Not exactly but I work for a company that makes software that the guys out in the field use.

M brother-in-law worked for them a few years ago as a "slick-line" operator, or something like that. I couldn't really tell you what that means, though.

I used to work for SLB in the oilfield services division, as computer technician here in the UK. I really enjoyed it and was sad to leave (I was on a fixed term contract). Although I heard that they trimmed down my old department so I dont have much chance of going back, as I dont think my old job exists anymore.

My brother also used to work for them in the automated test equipment divison, but that got sold and is now its own separate company.

I was approached by them in 1980 to become a seismic/well-logging truck engineer but decided not to in the end. The money offered was very good but the hours sucked and I would have had to relocate in Calgary. Basically you can get called in the middle of the night if a well is starting to be drilled at that time. One thing though, their 'basic training' camp was extremely well regarded and most people left the company after a few years because they would get extremely tempting offers from oil companies.

I worked for part of the semiconductor business, which they decided to divest themselves of in 2002. We were bought by a competitor who, in turn, siphoned off all our technology and then laid us all off...yeah, good times.
