Anyone in upstate New York? When is peak foliage season?

GF and I are thinking of making a day trip from NYC (we have car). What's a good place that's not too far away (2 hrs), even PA is good if there's a beautiful place. I'm already familiar with New England, just not NY.

The High Peaks of the Adirondacks are peaking now, and the Catskills close behind. The rest is still a ways away.

At least in my experience from growing up in a rural area, the deciduous trees should already be changing and would most likely be better in the first half of October.

No idea about the location though... I was about 3.5 hours from NYC.

If you want someplace with good color not far from where you are this next week, I'd aim for either the Litchfield Hills in CT / Berkshires of MA / Route 9 corridor in southern VT -- or the Catskills.

Fall is a great time to tour the wineries of the Finger Lakes. I just went on a wine tour around Keuka Lake two weeks ago, good times.

I live in the fingerlakes region, Ithaca, NY. You are too early to come up now. Wait another two weeks.

Come near where I live, Harriman State Park (practically my backyard). Only 50 minutes or so north of the city. Palisades parkway will take you straight there, and it's a beautiful drive, anyway, when the leaves start changing with scenic overlooks. Leaves are just starting to change here.

I'm in Western NY, less than an hour from the Finger Lakes region - it's getting pretty close to peak now; maybe a week to go. Looking forward to spending a lot of time in the woods starting next Monday. (Opening of bow season.)

Honestly pick any road above 15/95.

But here is a few:
Route 7 around Kent and up north
Route 8 (none Highway section)
Route 44
One of my favorite local roads (close to me) is Route 58 off Merritt>connect to 53 around Reservoir.

Pick any small local road up north CT and you not be disappointed.

Hike up bear mountain, enjoy the octoberfest at the bottom. It's a lot of fun. Bring your dog if you have one, I brought my ridgeback both times we went.

Not a bad idea. It's adjacent to Harriman State Park, by the way, so it's easy enough to visit either/both.
