That's even easier. You just need one vac. Whenever someone feels like having their keyboard cleaned, they put in a request (like a flag on the workstation) to have it cleaned, instruct cleaning staff to vacuum the keyboard with the vac.

Nice fairy tale world you live in. First we'd have to set up a communication line to our cleaning crew at night, then find a way to convey which keyboards need to be cleaned, etc.

I just need cans of air. It's amazing how ATOT goes so far down a fucking rabbit hole.

What kind of tech job you got cleaning out Keyboard? Sounds like you the low end of tech. I do tech but F that we don't clean keyboards. How about some responsibility of the user clean their own shit.

why can dusters?? I use a mini pancake compressor, you can get them for like $50, probably cheaper at harbor frieght

1) we have many people wanting a can at their desk...
2) they are a bit loud and good luck having people put it back or just end up taking it home.

I will tell you that people will be blowing out some pretty nasty shit. A better alternative might be to buy a case of keyboards and just replace them when they get too dirty. THEN hand out cans of air so that they stay clean.

"Cans of air" are not simply air compressed into a can, but usually made of a flourocarbon of sorts, most commonly (I've seen) is tetraflouroethane.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_duster

There is no alternative, short of finding a vac, blower, or other sort of way to blow air. This is simply how its done. There are no adulterants or anything else added in most cases to discourage "huffing". What you are sensitive to seems to be the ingredient itself - a flourocarbon. If your air in a can DOES have an bitterant, it is out of the ordinary (at least as far as I have seen).

This thread alone has convinced me of the usefulness of asking ATOT for help. With such friendly, on-topic and downright informative tips, my only regret is not having a question to leverage the collective brain with... :hmm:

You are very wrong and must not get out much. Almost all store bought air has had bitterants added for the last few years. Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, Costco/BJ's, etc.

If you take the time out to look next time you get out, you will see "THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A BITTERANT TO DISCOURAGE ABUSE."

I did look, mine does not have that, and is purchased via Office Depot and Costco. We use whatever is on sale, and change brands.

Your locale may direct that a bitterant be added. Mine may not.

Did you read the "Safety" section of your link?
"Since gas dusters are one of the many inhlants that can be easily abused, many manufacturers have added a bittering agent to deter people from inhaling the product."

I'm not responsible for the content of my link. In fact - I did read that. I simply explained that while he seems to experience purchasing bitterant containing aerosol air cans, I have not. My global warming enhancing cans of "air" do not contain bitterant as yet. Granted it might not be far off.

So I'm not surprised by the large number of posts suggesting an alternate to cans of air. My own personal experience has been "just go to the store and buy anything - there are no bitterants" vs. the more popular hard to get bitterant-free aerosol cans.

Compressor is the best bet for this though, but guess it's not always an option in an office environment due to noise.

I know exactly what he means by the bitterant. When I was in IT before we just convinced them it would be more cost effective to buy a compressor, they'd buy these cans by the case. At first there was no bitterant then the supplier changed them and they now had bitterant. It was awful. Pretty much cleared the room whenever a PC had to be dusted and the one dusting was pretty much choking up in the process and had to leave the room too after it was done. It's even worse if the can is not held upright.

Something like this may also be an option:

(that's just an example, I just searched for CO2 air duster)
