Anyone know a source for piping like this that is NOT PVC?

I am trying to make a waterer and feeder for some chickens like these:

I don't want to use PVC since it is not the most non-toxic thing ever created...

Can anyone suggest a good source for similar pipe and fittings but that are HDPE, LDPE, or something similar?

Maybe mcmaster carr or amazon supply?

Search terms something like food safe or lab. You will likely pay a premium though. I dont really think the PVC will leech chemicals though for your application

You should be fine with PVC for pipe like that, there's no plasticizers in the hard stuff and that's what you should be worried about. PVC is completely non-toxic in the hard form, especially when used with water based solutions.

How about polypropylene pipe? Its fairly common and "safer" than PVC/CPVC.
Can also heat fuse fittings, instead of using glue.

PVC is not UV stabilized and this will be sitting out in the Florida sun all day. Don't really want to go down that road. There is a reason "food safe" containers are not made out of pvc...

I don't have an answer for you, but I did make a simple CPVC deer feeder that looks like the 2nd pic. It was about $40 in materials if I remember correctly.

I secured it to a tree with bailing wire.

QFT...seems like a fair price and to try and make it yourself will probably result in less than ideal.

Galvanized metal should be easy to use to make something like this...I think that's what standard feeders are made out of anyway.

Build a small shade roof.

I'll send the invoice later.

I would just use PVC and cover with something like aluminum foil or paint.

Don't they have ABS pipe most places? Not sure if its any better than pvc for what you want.

Good luck even chipping 3" pvc pipe used on furnaces these days. It would take a lot of pecking to choke a chicken.

I'd just use PVC and cover it. Sunlight and plastic doesn't mix regardless of what you use. If I were going to put the effort into making it out of plastic, I'd cover it to prevent damage.

I'm a gas fitter. The new 636 pvc pipe or even royal pipe will endure any elements.
