An FX5200?

Is it an improvement over a GF4MX? Sure. The GF4MX is basically a slightly dressed-up GF2MX, which is DX7 tech and a good four full generations old.

Is it a horrible card, with much better choices available for a similar (or slightly higher) amount of money? Yes. I'd strongly recommend looking at either the RADEON 9550/9600 (or a used 9700Pro/9800/9800Pro), or the GeForce 6200/6600 (or a used/refurb 6600GT).

yup...that card is hopelessly outdated!! i doubt u can even play any games on that anymore!! i did have a G4MX 440 a long time back n it run good in its time although it was just a better g2mx in disguise. try getting 9700/9800pro used cards for under $100 on ebay.

What's your budget for a new videocard?

Also, what games do you plan to be playing?

Game graphics have come a little way since then (2002).

Serioulsy though, what price range are you looking at, what games, and what are the rest of your system specs?

HAHAHAHAHA, love the screen shot! thats funny. But yeah, wow thats some bad graphics.

Most are right though, for a decent upgrade, your probably looking at a 6600GT for about $160 at newegg. There are 2.

A 6600 regular would still be an improvement, but for the extra $25 i would do the GT.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145112

and even a 6200 would be an improvement...still.... at $115

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122216

But in order 6600Gt$160, 6600$135, and 6200 $115.

Hope this helps!

Chris

P.s. and like others have said, stay away from 64 bit interface cards... your looking for 128 bit interface.

As a minumum, I'd suggest:

Don't go any lower. Up to you to decide how much higher you want to go (i.e. refurb 9700/9800pro a good choice for a step up from here). Next would be a 6600GT, but price rises accordingly.

Yeah, I'd also recommend the 9600p (128bit). It's probably the best agp card for it's price, and it will be a nice improvement over the gf4 mx.

6600GT (best choice) > 6600 > 9800/9700 refurb > 9600 (128bit mem)

dont be fooled by the amount of ram they have...128 is fine...all those chouices are very affordable and good to fair performers...dont waste 50-75$ on a 5200 that will be equally as bad as your current card in short order...spend your money wisely

edit: what I was referring to was more cost based vs. performance...a lot of 6600's do cost a littl more vs. 9700 refurb...

A 6600 compared to a 6600gt is like a Lancer compared to a Lancer Evo. There's a huge difference in performance, and unless you plan to OC the 6600 will never be even as good as a 9800p. Basically if you have to spend <$100, get a 9600p, and if you can spend $150-200, get a 6600gt.

Your... Your joking, right?
It's a car made by Mitsubishi, and it has 2 versions. The regular Lancer is about 120 horsepower, and the Lancer Evolution is turbocharged to like 280, with the same four cylinder engine.

i knew it was a vehicle reference, but who made it, and what the differences were between the two, I would of had no idea unless you explained it.

I haven't looked at buying a car in years......i restore old homes as an income maker/hobby..... so i have had a truck for 10 years...

so yes, i had no clue what a "lancer" was outside of the fact, i was pretty sure it was a vehicle of some sort... could of been a boat, train, or plane for all i knew.

Not everybody care's or knows about rice mobiles...The Evo is still as slow as a turd floating in a stagnet lake

LOL, and you're comparing it to what? Your Porsche? The Evo is pretty common where I live, and it will definitely beat out 90% of the cars around here in terms of speed.
