That's the one I got in July, although I'm pretty sure Comcast isn't docsis 3.0 here yet. Whatever.

I might pick one of those up. My modem lease is included in my plan but they only give out the crappy Moto mini modems here. My speeds are all over the place and I'm pretty sure the modem has something to do with it.

http://192.168.100.1 from within the lan behind the modem.

Broadcast domain does not matter, it will go through the router to the modern, and most modems answer that address internally to the cable modem config/status interface.

Does it matter? Most modems are DOCSIS 2.0 which is adequate for nearly everyone's needs.

If you're not doing VOIP or Over 20Mbps.. DOCSIS 1.1 is adequate

If you're doing VOIP.. you're probably on DOCSIS 2.0 (for QOS reasons)

If you're getting over 28Mbps .. you're probably on DOCSIS 3.0

Then you should already know most modems within the last 2+ years are DOCSIS 2.0 to allow for better QOS and channel bonding needed for VOIP service ... and are firmware flashable to 3.0 .. It's extremely rare to see a 1.1+ modem in the wild.

you can easily tell what you're running based on the firmware (which can be found on the modem's internal page)
