since the word estimate is in bold, I'd think the answer is something like "I estimate your car is heavier than the ruler." wtf is estiamte?

Forgot that note. "How Close?" is a typical question. I usualyl say within 10%. Tehre is a real way to do it. I tested the theory out on my truck.

Way too simple. Did you write it correctly? Open the door, flip the switches on one at a time. When the light goes on, you know which switch does it.

Wow, a friend of mine just asked me a variation of this like half an hour ago (he's not an AT member).

He said that a friend of his was asked this in a job interview. It took me a few minutes to figure it out.

To clarify:

You cannot just open the door and flip the switches to see what happens.

The door is closed and you are outside. Once you open the door you can't mess with the switches anymore.

That is how the riddle is supposed to be done. However, that isn't what was asked above. That is why I asked if he wrote the thing incorrectly.

This one is still quite simple though IF YOU ASSUME THE SWITCHES ARE LABELED ON/OFF CORRECTLY. Turn off all switches and wait a while so that the bulb cools completely. Turn on the left switch for a while (a minute should be plenty). Then turn it off. Immediately turn on the middle switch. Open the door. If the light is on, then the middle switch is the one that controls the light. If the light is off but warm, then the left switch controls the light. If the light is off but cool, then the right switch controls the light.

So you cannot use the spring constant?... interesting. Because doesn't weight matter by actual material. Can you assume made of all steel and that the steel is not displaced by other materials?
