Someone wrote about ATI cards having 2D (slower) and 3D (faster) clock modes and added that ATI cards will operate in 2D clock speeds in "windowed" 3D games This explains why I got such a performance boost in Dungeon & Dragons Online when I recently fixed a problem, in its default settings. I learned the game defaults to windowed mode, even when in full screen (it displays as a full screen but it is technically in windowed mode.) Its INI file has a variable called FakeFullScreen and it is set to True, as the default setting. That change (to False) fixed graphical tearing and also made a material difference in FPS, stutter (hardly any at all now, except under heavy hard drive usage.)
First, I have no idea why the developers made FakeFullScreen the default. I am wondering if any other 3D games do this. Anyone know of any?
