The heck is this stuff and how can I kick its ass? It looks like rust, but its not, its literally on top of the the paint. Tried scrubbing the hell out of it with soap and stuff but nothing seems to work.

Thanks for any help!!!

Try soaking it in vinegar. Maybe make a bandage for it so it can sit on it awhile before trying to scrub.

Looks like rust deposits. Try soda, vinegar, or lemon juice (carbonic, acetic, and citric acids, respectively)

Try bar keeper's friend with a scotch-brite scouring pad. If that doesn't work you could also try a Mr. Clean magic eraser sponge.

Minerals in water. Start with an acid like vinegar. See if progress is made. If it doesn't, move the acidty ladder. Hydrochloric for the most stubborn of stains but obviously wear protection.

Just to wrap up most of the comments: Bar Keeper's Friend is Oxalic acid which is stronger than vinegar but weaker than hydrochloric acid. (Basically almost everyone is recommending the exact same thing).

I wonder if one of those magic erasers would work. I'm not sure if they are safe for porcelain or not.

Baking soda add a bit of water to form paste, cover stain with paste then cover with wet towel. Wait 20min then wipe off.

i didn't know this. things i learned today...

(fun fact, 10% oxalic acid with a little bit of voltage behind it will nicely etch the grain boundaries of austenitic stainless steels )
