Anyone know where I can buy LEGO's cheaply?

Can't wait till Sept, they have a huge tag sale by the main office where a Lego employee has huge bags (maybe gallon freezer size) of them for just a couple bucks.

Looks like mixed legos go for about $6/lb shipped on ebay. I don't know how many pieces are in a pound but it seems like a decent deal to me.

I kept all my Lego. It's the only childhood toy I kept, and frig I'm glad I did. My future children will like Lego, no way around it. Probably have 50-60lbs kicking around in a few Rubbermaids.

That said, a lot of the time you can get a lot of it at yard sales as has been mentioned several times.

Just make sure you clean that shit before you use them. You never know where kids will hide legos.

That's surprising... I mean, how hard is it to make a little plastic brick? Especially since they went generic more than 20 years ago, you'd think all the knock-off factories would have gotten pretty good at reproducing them by now.

They just don't feel the same. The weight is off, the colors aren't as good. The plastic generally feels cheaper. This might be nit picky, but I vastly prefer Lego brand lego to Mega Blocks or any of that shit.

Edit, Oh and the mini figures aren't even close.

Of course Lego > any other rip off brand, but when you're a kid, who knows better? I was happy getting a huge box of Mega Blocks that could be made into a battleship. My favorite lego piece as a kid was the lego people.

Maybe when I have kids, I'll buy them the Starwars legos. Those models (death star, millennium falcon, and etc) look fun to build. :awe:

BrickLink.com has a pretty healthy marketplace going. You can find almost any set, and some of the sellers are doing bulk bricks.

Speaking from experience, them damn sets are expensive. If the house catches on fire, I'll be rounding those up.

Maybe I was just an elitist tool of a child. But I can remember getting Mega Blocks from a yard-sale or something and not liking them very much. They got a different Rubbermaid then the real Lego so they wouldn't get mixed in.

I put them in a bucket of hot water, add detergent and a little bleach, mix well, let sit, then rinse. Clean and disinfected.

The compatible Tyco brand were ok as "filler" IMO. I'd always use them for structural stuff inside something I was building.

And ya, since the colors dont match, if you are building something in which you care about color, the off brands are a no go on any part that is visible

Haha, I'll be saving up for their college tuition (especially if they decide to straight to a UC ). The sets would be their xmas presents

Maybe you didn't grow up poor or have frugal parents? I was fine with whatever I got. Like I said earlier, I had a blast with that battleship set from Megablocks

We were pretty middle class. I didn't have overwhelming amounts or anything. I got a crap load of the OLD bricks from the 60's from my mom's brother. Basically just a bunch of flat boards and the normal 2x8 and 2x4 bricks, great for building actual buildings and stuff. So I had a decent amount starting out, then it got added too every birthday and Christmas from pretty much my 5th-12th years of life.

I still have them all, they are almost all red and white with blue boards for building on. My rear right speaker stand for my computer was even build out of it in kind of an Eiffel Tower design. Just stopped using that 2 or so years ago. I need to haul it out of storage.

The main problem with megablocks was that the 1 thick pieces were half a brick instead of a third of a brick. Once they got mixed with regular legos they were a pain in the ass since they fucked up basic builds. The 'full' bricks were usually a different color and weight, but the same size so they weren't much of a problem.
