Anyone know why I can't get dual channel RAM with my Asus A8V?

I have 2 sticks of Crucial PC2100 256MB DDR RAM. 266Mhz, CL 2.5 (2.5, 3, 3, 6), ECC
Asus A8V Rev 2.0 with a AMD64 3000+ 939. I've tried the 1007, 1008 and the 1009 beta bios.

The computer boots fine with a single stick in the B1 slot as it should. It also boots fine with 2 sticks in single channel mode having them installed on B1 and B2.

I can't get the proper config of A1 and B1 in order to get dual channel though. The RAM sticks are identical and they both work just fine on their own or together when in single channel mode.

How many chips are on the DIMM's? I am looking at the A8V manual and it says that they need to have less than 19 chips. It says that ECC is supported as is PC2100.

Unbuffered DIMMs (as used on socket 939) _never_ have more than 18 RAM chips.

The RAM doesn't happen to be of the "Registered" kind, no?

You seriously need some new RAM. May as well just upgrade to a gig of PC3200, as you're not going to overclock on that stuff!

I think Ryland probably hit it on the head. Crucial makes 256MB PC2100 DIMMs with four, eight and sixteen chiplets on them. For your purposes, they'll need to both be identical. Are they?

Bigger picture: yeah, get more RAM and faster, like Cheesehead said. Corsair's Value Select PC3200 modules seem to have a good reputation, maybe grab a couple 512MB modules for your rig.

I'm runing the corsair value select in dual channel mode got a gig of it 3200 runs great, no complaints
