With the obvious exception of being a pain in the butt to drive in, does anybody else just love super foggy nights? I'm sitting here at work and visibility drops down to like 40-50' and I almost started giggling like a kid it was so cool.
Yeah, I like it. Pretty cool thinking you are in the clouds, yet at ground level. However, driving in it really sucks, especially after a 15hr day of straight through driving (around 1:30am) with visibility of 15' and you are stuck on a turnpike with no exits for 20-30miles. That was a couple years ago.
In fact I actually enjoy driving in fog. Everyone slows down to a ridiculously slow pace, so you watch how far away car headlights are when you first see them coming the other way, and how far off the tail lights were when you first saw them - and you have an idea of how far ahead you are actually seeing. Then coz they're going so slow - its easy to overtake safely.
there was one night my friends and I were driving home (4am). it was SOOO foggy that visibility was around 5-10'.
I was looking out the back windows and I kept wiping the window thinking it was condensation that was blocking my view... but I literally couldn't see out the window because of the fog.
my friend was driving and had the highbeams on and could only see about 10' MAX!

The worst experience I ever had with that sort of thing was driving home new years day at about 1am down rt 78 year 2000. What is normally a 75 - 80 mile an hour road dropped down to about 10. You couldnt see the front of your car the fog was so bad. And then to top it off in the middle of it all some guy had his car sideways taking up the left 2 lanes, stopped, and was walking around on the highway. That really freaked me out...
urameatball - your mate should have turned his highbeam off. Normal beam has a better chance of shining 'under' the fog, but highbeam just shines 'on' the fog making it really bright.
