Didn't think I'd like it but I use it a lot now. Pain in the ass plugging cords in, and I've had multiple cords and ports fail completely. I have a Dell tablet with a beautiful OLED screen that is a paper weight because the port broke. If it had wireless charging it'd be perfectly usable still.

Plus when just picking up my phone quickly to check a notification, wireless is so much better than dealing with a cord being caught or dragging.

Having written that out I'd say its one of the main features I look for now!

They should make the wireless charging more wide spread than just for phones. It'd be a lot easier to adopt the idea if every other device didn't still require being physically plugged in. The industry can't just stop with wireless phone charging capability and expect everyone will buy the dongle *just* for their phone... not when you have to physically plug everything else in, with the exact same kind of cables, anyway.

It's an improvement to an existing thing.

It's the solution to easily placing my phone in a car holder and not have to hunt around for the lead..

Yep, I don't have to hunt for the plug cause they never stay on top of the nightstand/table for long. I don't have to worry about accidentally catching the cable and sending the phone flying to the floor too. Also my charger props up the phone so I can just glance at it to see the time or reach over to press snooze instead of having to fumble and pick it up (I get up at 4:30a). While not as big of a difference as a wired/wireless mouse I find the convenience worth it to me.

Apple was supposed to release a triple device wireless charger for iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods (if you have the replacement wireless charging case). Hasn't materialized yet the last time I checked about a week ago.

Considering ive replaced the USB/charging port on almost every single phone ive ever owned for a cost of $30-70 each phone now that we have wireless charging i use it exclusively.

Not to use it is just a waste of money IMO.

I've never damaged a charging port of any device I've used the entirety of my device using life. Admittedly, I'm perplexed how someone could damage almost every single phone's charge port to a point that replacement was needed.

its a solution to a problem that doesn't exist

This is an odd comment to make.

It's like bluetooth headphones or contactless payment cards. It seems to be a pointless feature, until you use it and wonder how you ever did without it.

When i'm at home I use a spigen f306w to do my charging. Could I live without it? Probably.... It's not essential.
Usually only use it at night...just slap it on there.

Yeah, I swear that some people must attach the cable and use it like a pair of nunchucks!

I've never damaged the port on any of my phones but on my last one the paint around the port looked like I ran sandpaper over it.
Mine going back to some winmobile phones from a decade ago are fine and I dont think that I'm that gentle on electronics!

The only reason I ever plug in my phone is for android auto in my car. I have the free Samsung fast wireless charger downstairs that I got with my Note8. Then cheap ones from amazon in my bedroom and at my office.

That's one approach, but I guess I meant more like bluetooth headphones coming out with wireless charging or whatever new Nintendo handheld that may come out having wireless charging, etc. More things that we plug in using ~5v chargers needs to support wireless charging.

Huh? I've never had that before (apart from with the occasional faulty cable)... moisture? Do you work in a sauna or something?

I have a habit of taking the phone into the bathroom while I shower.

its a solution to a problem that doesn't exist

I like to call it progress.

I find that a flaky charging iDevice usually has some lint packed into the back of the Lightning port. Usually impossible to tell until you start trying to pick it out. Use a wooden toothpick split in half.

"How could it not be better?" Well. You can't easily charge while using the device. It's also generally slower.

Good point and thanks for the advise. I've been using compressed air to dislodge what's in the port, but it's not so good

Have cats? mine trip on the cord constantly and send my phone flying to the floor by the cord/charging port, no matter how i try to route the cord my male cat finds a way to trip over it while i sleep, hes a dick. I also keep my phones for 3-5 years at a time. I went from a S2 to a note 4 to a s7e.

Funny some view is as an "or" decision instead of an "and". Couple more areas it's useful:

- My extended family uses a variety of mostly Samsung devices from the S6 to my personal S9+. My work phone is an S7. I'd hate to have a microUSB and USB Type C cable or adapter lying around.
- My work S7 is getting on 2 years and the battery doesn't last nearly as long as new + my corporate software is constantly keeping the device awake. I just drop the phone on the pad whenever I'm at my desk and pick it up when I go to meetings - probably 15 times a day. It lets me leave work with it close to 100% so I don't have to worry about charging it at home.

So its not a killer feature but it definitely adds utility.

For me, I can respect that there'd be those that would see it as an "or" and those that would see it as an "and". Everyone's use-case isn't the same. Everyone's life/lifestyle isn't the same.

Pros of wired:
Faster charge rate
More efficient/Less heat
You can talk on your phone pretty readily while it charges without requiring speaker mode
You can use a battery pack readily (backpacking/outdoors)
Your cables are often reusable with other devices (tablets, bluetooth speakers, headphones, etc)
You can use a X-Port charger for multiple devices
You don't need another charge system on your desk in addition to the one you use for speakers/headphones, etc

Cons of wired:
You have to deal with the cable:
- physically plugged in
- can wear out or be damaged
- might impose a trip or tangle hazard

Pros of Wireless:
No cable
- nothing to plug in
- no cable to wear out or be damaged
- no trip or tangle hazard

Cons of Wireless:
Slower charge rate
Less efficient/More heat
You can't talk on your phone while it charges unless you use speaker mode
Charge station isn't compatible with most of your other 5v devices
Doesn't lend itself very well to backpacking/outdoors

Personally I feel like the pros/cons weigh up such that with cables you can do basically everything you need to do; sure there might be an inconvenience factor with the cable, but you can do anything you need to do - you can make it work. Where wireless leaves you wanting in some situations... you're not doing a hike with your phone realistically charging on a wireless system.

I’m not huge on wireless charging now probably because I aimed for bigger sized phones for the battery situation. Based on my use my recent phones (6S Plus, Pixel XL, now the X) have more than enough battery life for what i need and I just charge overnight. I also never broke ports from charging or even connecting to my pc. I think its useful for smaller phones or phones with horrible battery life. I used wireless charging when my phones didnt nearly make it throughout a day like when i had a Palm Pre. Having it constantly topped off was awesome because I NEEDED to do it, seriously the battery life was god awful.

I won't buy another phone without wireless charging. In fact, I just rebought my 3-year-old phone after smashing the old one while hiking, just because I couldn't find any other phone I wanted that also had it.

Docks by my nightstand, by my computer, at work, and in the truck. Too convenient to go without.

And it's not like you *can't* use a wire if you need to talk & change simultaneously, or any other "con" in the list above. It's an extra feature, with no detriment if you don't want to use it, imo.

By all means, if you want to keep both accessible, do so. If you go wireless, you almost have to keep wired, anyway. Because not everything supports wireless charging. Tablets of a huge variety, Kids' less expensive phone, assortment of small handheld devices/toys that all use micro usb to charge, etc.

You say "or any other con" on my list. I can't force you to understand the list, but I don't think me not being able to get someone to understand the list means that they should be able to just discount the list or jedi-hand-wave it away. Doesn't work that way.

Man, that got oddly aggressive and off-topic.

I use a big 10,000 MaH battery case when I'm on the go, and recently got a wireless charging stand for when I hook my phone up to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

I recently found out DeepSleep disabled on my Note 8 and turning that on significantly boosted idle battery.

The wife and I both have wireless capable phones, we do not use wireless chargers. The only issue I have myself against wires is you can damage the port on the phone from careless use or get something tiny stuck in there. Even the wireless charger has a cable that needs plugging in, so you have this module laying on your desk or in the console of the vehicle. I have no issue plugging in a USB C cable, in fact don't you still need to do that to transfer data to a PC? We are pretty active, I've carried my phone during 100 mile running races and used the cable to charge via a USB battery.

I certainly don't have a problem with there being a feature on a phone I don't use. If we are talking design considerations I'd much rather have a plastic phone than glass front and back for example.
