Hadn’t noticed. I thought the $699 for a Red Devil Vega 56 I just payed was a great deal!
That was a "deal"? That's the regular price of the Vega 56 before it spiked by $100.

On another note, looks like RX 580 8GB's went from ~$350 CDN a few months ago to now ~$550 CDN. I was hoping to get a Vega 56 but the price made no sense and another RX 580 would've been on my list but price just keeps going up. I said before Christmas that this would happen.

GTX 1080 Ti cards now start at $1000+ on Newegg.

This is the worst it has ever been.

It's because of this new coin/algorythm which is damn profitable with GDDR5X gpus. 1080 and 1080Ti are now making more profit than even the Vega gpus. Depending on the release date of Nvs next gen, it could also be, that Nv is already reducing the production to clear inventory. With the new mining boom it might that you won't be able to buy a 1080/Ti anymore and everyone will need to wait for the next gen.

Tell me about it. I wanted to buy a GTX 1060 and the one I was looking at was out of stock among others.

How much are these guys making a month by mining is my question. Seems like it isn't worth the hassle from some of the returns that most people get when mining. It's NVIDIA and AMD that are really benefiting.

Been mining with a single GTX 1070 TI for a few days and I made 12$ so far based on current value of Ethereum. According to the stats on my pool I will make $82.48/mo at the current value (before hydro costs, but 1 card = maybe 200w). It went down quite a bit today, so that number can change as the value goes up/down. I was sitting at over $100 a day ago. That's just a projected value though. When the pool pays me out I'll sit on it until it goes up again.

So imagine the ones with 6+ GPU rigs, they're making decent money with very little effort if they are willing to handle the initial risk before ROI is met. On top of it all this generates heat, so even though heating with electricity is normally super expensive, because this makes money, it's technically free heat.

I'm bummed out about this shortage too though, I really wanted to go big.

At current bitcoin value I am pulling $221 a month on a single 1080 Ti. I will be adding 2 Titan Xp's tomorrow. Should bump me to $665 a month.

Man that’s really cool. You think I can make close to what you make with a gtx1060 3gb?

3GB card should work, 2GB card won't. So I would give it a shot. You'd have to google the expected hash rate. My card is doing 26Mh/sec. It can go higher with some tweaks but for now I rather just leave stuff as stock. When I build a dedicated rig it will be a 5U case with massive high speed fans in the front and optimized for super cooling so I may play more with OCing then. I may still build a rig even for just one card, just so I can get use out of my gaming machine again as right now it's tied up. Even if this stuff crashes I can find a use for the rig anyway.

lol wow, this is the exact same card I got for $700... https://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-MSI-GAM...%3A02e22bf01610a86046a16894ffd926f5%7Ciid%3A1

Tabanark. I'm starting to wonder if I can make more money flipping my card than to mine with it. lol.

Mind you I can't list it as new anymore but still have original box and everything. Tempting...

I think I will keep it though. I'm going to wait till spring and see how things are looking as far as card availability. I need it to be warmer in my garage so I can build my custom case anyway.

How would a GTX 1050 4GB fair in mining? I wanted a 1060, but that's way out of my budget.

What coin should I mine with a 1050 and what software and pool do you use?

Yeah... the people who often make the most money in a gold rush are the ones who provide the picks and shovels.

Maybe I should think about buying some NVIDIA and AMD stock as well.

What's also annoying is that this is driving up cloud hosting prices as well. If you want to rent a cloud instance by the hour with an Nvidia Tesla card in it, the hourly prices for those are insane.

Definitely dont keep it stock. It's extremely easy to get 80% of the optimization gains. Peg the power limit at somewhere between 60 and 75% moving in 5% increments downwards until you see hashrate take a steep nosedive. There is a definite sweet spot. Then OC the memory (if you're doing Ethereum). Look up some OC guides. My 1060's with GDDR5 get +750 memory offset and crash any much higher than that.

Might play with that stuff more once I have a dedicated rig setup. Though I read that you can't change any of the settings in Linux, and have to be in Windows. I found some options in nvidia-smi but the changes don't seem to do anything. I was trying to get the fans to run at 100% since they are only running at like 70%. Card is running at 66-68C and I should be able to get lower than that. I will see good drops when I build my rig though, right now it's running in a 4U case with cover off, cooling is better with cover on, but the card won't fit.

Yeah I've heard that about linux boxes on nVidia too, I'm running my nVidia stuff on Windows so I cant confirm. It's pretty amazing how little your hashrate drops even with huge amounts of power limit on the 10 series cards

XFX RX 580 card, $430 + ship. Sold and shipped by Newegg. Yep, Newegg themselves are really gouging now. I've noticed that they've pulled all of their ebay listings for anything higher than a GTX1060, if they even have those on there any more.

A month ago, you could find RX 570/580 (XFX, mainly), NEW, from BestBuy and Newegg on ebay, for roughly $300-330. (I snagged a Gaming X RX 570 8GB not more than two weeks ago, for $300 + ship.)

Sigh. Even if I wanted to buy more cards, I don't know if I could afford it, even with mining profits.

What did they say, the ones who made the most money during the gold rush, were the pick and shovel sellers? GG Newegg.

I'm putting my R9 290 Tri-X on ebay this weekend. The other ebay listings are insane. I may be able to sell this GPU for more than I spent on it in 2013!!!
